I am running Nexus 12.2.0.995 under Windows 7. Everything works perfectly but for one problem. I cannot access the program preferences. The preference page opens correctly and I can access any of the items on the lower part of the window, but all items in the menu at the top are frozen. Clicking on them does not register at all; the menu items are totally unresponsive. I was previously running version 11.6.0.968 and updated because of this problem, hoping that the new installation might fix it. It didn't.

I am attaching the recording of the error log I created which illustrates the issue. ooops - the forum will not allow me to upload it whether in
mht html or pdf format. hmmm... guess I can't send it to you here, so here is a link to it where I uploaded it on the web:

Any ideas?

High DPI issues.

Go to the Windows Control Panel, Display Settings. Either set the text size to 'Smaller - 100% (Default)' or click on 'Set Custom Text Size (DPI)' item at the left and toggle the 'Use Windows XP Style DPI scaling' setting.

You will have to re-start Nexus after this.

Hi Jorge,

You were right; the display text size was the problem. I was able to access the preferences when text size was reduced.

I was unable to change the setting using 'Use Windows XP Style DPI scaling' since this was grayed out. And, of course, the text was much too small for my very old eyes when I used a smaller setting. :)

As a result, I will just have to change the text size each time I might want to change the Nexus settings. Not too bad since I only need to do it rarely.

Thanks for your help.

1. What DPI/text size do you have it set to?

2. The grayed out 'Use Windows XP Style DPI scaling', was it stuck on enabled or disabled?

3. What happens if you exit re-start Nexus and immediately go to Preferences, still unable to click on the menu/tab headers?

Reason I'm asking these questions is because Vista/Windows 7 have something called DPI Virtualization, where non-DPI Aware applications (such as Nexus) are automatically - and transparently - scaled up *unless XP Style Scaling is turned ON*.

Unfortunately Microsoft's DPI Virtualization technology is poorly implemented and does have it's problems - still, Winstep applications were written to work well with it and bypass most of its limitations.

The setting I have for the text size is Larger 150% (9 point Segoe UI at 144 pixels per inch). At that setting the custom DPI box is blank and grayed out. If I change the size setting to 125% or 100%, the DPI box is checked but grayed out.

Exiting and restarting Nexus does not allow me access to the menu items as long as the larger text size is selected. It will only work when I reduce the size ( I suppose so the DPI custom setting can be automatically activated.)
