Hi

There seems to be an annoying issue in regards to Winstep.

Example - Tray icons. Trustport Total Security, Webroot, etc.

Upon opening the programs through the tray icon, there is another window. Like a mystery window.

Upon closing this mystery window, it also closes the icon in the system tray.

Only solution I've found thus far is to not run Winstep.

Thank you in advance.

It sounds as though your security program is doing it. If this is the case, obviously it's a false-positive. You should report Winstep to whatever security programs you're using to let them know it's safe so they can Whitelist it. Most security programs have a feature/button that allows you to report a program as safe to be Whitelisted.

In the meantime, you should go into your security programs and manually set it to allow Winstep and that should prevent the mystery window you described.

I've been using Winstep programs for quite some time now and I can assure you, they do not have malware. Winstep has been around for more than a decade. I've had to report it to my security in the past to be Whitelisted and I haven't had an issue since then. Obviously, before a program is Whitelisted by a security company they thoroughly check it out first.

I just thought about it. If you want further conformation, just check CNET. They thoroughly vet any program before writing an article on it. http://download.cnet.com/Winstep-Xtreme ... ag=mncol;1 If this doesn't alleviate your fears (and make you consider purchasing it if you haven't already) nothing will. :D

Hi

Thank you for responding. The issue that I'm wiriting about is in this post as well (scroll down a little until you see the Bit Defender window)

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4614&hilit=bitdefender

So, my issue is when I say click on the tray icon, sometimes there will be this empty window with the title of the program in addition to the program.

If I close the mystery window, not only does it close, but it closes the program that was running in the syatem tray as well (Trust Port)

I really like Winstep. Maybe running an older version would work as indicated in that post.

That might be the solution for now, but did you try to add Winstep to the Trusted Applications in your security program to see if that stops the window from appearing?

BTW, exactly which Winstep program are you using?

Avoid using the Show Desktop function for a while, see if that prevents the "mystery window" from appearing then please let me know.

I'm using Winstep Extreme 11.2

Where is the setting for show desktop function? There are a lot of options in this program.

Thanks!

Btw- if I close workshelf the issue does not seem to occur.

In Trust Port there is really nothing to exclude. It does not have an issue with Winstep. Thus far I've heard there are issues with Bitdefender, Web Root and Trust Port. Well, that I've read anyway.

Ok, been running without Work Shelf enabled and the issue does not occur.

With just the Next Start module, all is fine.

I noticed that the Trustport icon is in the tray exclusion list in the work Shelf settings.

Any ideas how I can get this to work?

Thanks.

Just a thought. Enable WorkShelf and disable the Winstep taskbar via NextSTART. Let me know what happens. I'm curious to find out if the problem is connected with the taskbar and not WorkShelf.

Make sure you exit and restart Winstep Xtreme just to make sure the new settings are fully enabled.
