Hi,

First of all, you've written a kickass piece of software, congrats! :) Everything works great, fast, memory consumption is low, but I am having big troubles with the Weather module :(
I live in Nis, Serbia (METAR code LYNI, Weather.com old code YIXX0027, new code SRXX0027). At first, the module was unable to read anything except the temperature, however after I changed the Weather.com code manually, it started working well (full 5-day forecast), but then just totally stopped. Now nothing helps - I tried following, one at a time:
- reinstalling Winstep, even installed the latest version today;
- changing METAR info retrieval URL and HTML search string;
- restoring old Weather.com code (YIXX0027);
- changing location to a more common one (NY, LA, Tokyo Heliport...);
- disabling firewall (I thought maybe something went wrong with it - the first time the Weather module worked it was on and correctly configured to allow Winstep to communicate with the Internet);

Has anyone else had similar problems and, if yes, what is the solution?
I am using Windows XP SP2, regularly updated with tons of MS update patches.

Thanks in advance.

Well, with all the changes you've made, I'm not sure how things currently are. Can you post a screenshot of the Weather Module Settings dialog, please?

I just tried the Weather.com code you provided (SRXX0027) and it works correctly here.

Thanks for the quick reply :)
Here's the screenshot:

As you see, I changed the Country field and the code because, when I select Nis from the list (Yugoslavia-Nis) the module doesn't let me simply change the code to SR... and always resets it to YI... after clicking OK.

Believe me, I've tried every possible combination and every order of changing the parameters, but it's simply dead :cry: However, having experienced way too many problems caused by Windows' weird behaviour for no apparent reason, I think I'll simply try reinstalling everything...

By the way, is the module able to read METAR data from every site that provides it as long as the URL, the code and the HTML Search String are correct? For example:

METAR Code: LYNI
URL: http://fr.allmetsat.com/metar-taf/rouma ... .php?icao=
String: <b>METAR:</b>

Cheers, and once again all the best! Winstep really made my life more beautiful :D

Looks to me like some kind of firewall problem indeed.

Ok, a couple of questions:

What happens if you click on the 'Get Weather' button in the Weather Settings dialog? Do you get an error message?

What happens if you double-click on the desktop weather module? Does the relevant METAR page open on your browser?

If you right click on the shelf's left mini-tab and select Info->Check for Updates from the context menu, do you get an error message?

In the desktop clock module tooltip, what does it say after 'Atomic Timer Servers Last Checked:' ?

Yep, looks like it. :D

As my brother likes to say, as nothing conventional works, the only possibility left is that there are Gremlins living inside my computer :lol:

I've disabled both software and hardware firewalls, turned off IP filtering and everything else that could cause this but it didn't make any difference :evil:

Usually, what I notice is a two-way network activity, but nothing happens - the only thing that is updated is "last time checked", but I guess it's done locally... Once or twice there was a message saying that "the weather check was already in progress" but that was just me nervously overclicking :D

Now this is the interesting part - I ALWAYS get the default METAR page, regardless of the URL I specify... Example: I set the URL field to: http://www.wunderground.com/Aviation/index.html?query= but the module still takes me to http://weather.noaa.gov/... is this what is supposed to happen? Happens with both v7.1 and v7.9.

No errors, it says the current version is up to date...

The clock sync works without any problems, I set the time to 6 AM manually and then re-synchronized it...

I am really sorry to bother you further with this, because the problem is obviously in my computer - I mean, it worked really well and since nobody else ever complained about the Weather module, as I can see, a nice clean install should solve the problem. It'll be worth it!

Thanks for your effort, I'll recommend Winstep to all my friends!

Cheers!

Yes, double clicking the weather module will always lead you to the http://weather.noaa.gov page - that page has a 24 hour summary of the weather conditions.

The fact that everything else is working properly, including clock synch, means it is NOT a firewall problem.

Out of curiosity, what happens if you select the 'Glow' check box? That is the only difference I can see between things there and here (although I did try with the Glow check box unchecked and still got the weather info).

I was kinda hoping that one would solve my problem, but no :( I've even tried resetting all global and module-related settings to default, but it still won't work...

Perhaps the program just doesn't work well with one (or more) of the Windows patches I've applied recently... I guess I'll try with a "clean" install - SP2, then drivers, and then Winstep...
