Hi, Newbie here. Just purchased Winstep Xtreme package. former Rocket Dock user

Having problem with a white box appearing on my desktop that stays on top of all open windows. Location at which it appears to be random, but once on the only way to get rid of it is to close workshelf. I have included a screenshot

Tried a search of this forum, but could not find anything on this issue.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Using workshelf version 15.09.1081 with Atmospherica theme
Computer is running Windows 7 Professional and AntiVirus program is TrendMicro Internet Security Version: 8.0.2045

Wow, apologies, somehow I missed this post.

You know what, that looks like a GDI+ invisible control window. Only it's visible in your case.

Are you using any type of Virtual Desktops software?

Also, open NextSTART Preferences, go to the Hotspots tab, select New, change 'Hotspot Button on the Desktop' to 'Left clicking on hotspot', click Next, click Next, click Next, drag the little magnifying glass icon over the blank window. Does it give it a name? If so, what is it (don't forget to Cancel the creation of the new hotspot after this)?

Hi Jorge

Wow, I am just as bas as you LOL

Thanks for getting back to me. Not sure why I didn't get notice you had replied. Must have forgot to hit subscribe.

The name of the white spot is NxDock

I do not believe I am running any virtual windows. Also I have updated to Windows 10 and still get the spot on occasion. The only thing I am running now is the Workshelf. The pop-up only occurs when subshelf drops down, and not always.

Ahahah! At the rate we are going this conversation will be over in 2020. ;-)

So, devil is in the details. NxDock is, obviously, the name of the window used for 'displaying' docks. And the detail is that you only use the Shelf, not a single dock, which is highly unusual.

Can you please confirm this was also true when you made the screenshot above?

Also, can you please make a backup of your WorkShelf settings and send the resulting file to the Winstep support address? Want to try to reproduce the issue here using your settings.

Ok, trying your backup I noticed that, as I suspected, you're using sub-docks in the Shelf. My guess is that this has something to do with it, very few people use in-Shelf sub-docks.

How often do you actually use them?

Told you I was a newbie...LOL

Did not realize that I was using subdocks. Assumed they were just submenus

As you can see by the image below. I have a main category called Projects, in which I have m projects listed. In each project I have links to different urls' documents I use. In the third dropdown is are links to url's that use the same software.

I really like that workshelf does this, as I use it quite abit. Is there a better way to do this that I haven't thought of.

I can delete the subdock and see if the problems still persists?

Let me know what you think

Thanks

No, no, let it be, better if we find out what is causing it so I can fix it. :)

Now that you know the *probable* culprit, try to pay attention to what you were doing just before that white box appeared, to see if it was related to the sub-docks in the Shelf and if we can find a way to reliably reproduce the problem here.

For instance, it could happen only when the Shelf collapses while a sub-dock is still open, etc...

Guess what? Just managed to reproduce it here.

Not sure what is exactly going on yet but this is reproducible, so, fixable. :)

And I fixed it for next release! :)

The problem happened because you had the in-shelf sub-docks set to open on mouse-over, which is not a bad thing by itself. But if you also clicked on the sub-dock icon when the sub-dock was already opening but still playing the slide animation, the dock would try to close (because clicking on a in-shelf dock icon will open the dock but will also close it if it is already open, i.e.; it acts as a toggle).

Unfortunately due to an oversight on my part in this situation it could not unload from memory totally and you ended up getting stuck with that 'phantom' white dock.

In my humble opinion you are amazing :D :D :D :!: :!: :!: :!:

Once I finally figured out how to monitor this forum and actually respond to you, you have been gone above and beyaond to resolve my issue. Greatly appreciated.

I absolutely love your app and appreciate that you are quick to provide support. I wish more developers would follow your example!!!

Thank you and I look forward to the next release. No rush on my part, as I can live with this knowing it has been addressed.

Take Care

John

P.S. Do you have someplace I can leave a review of your app?

I take it you haven't seen the white boxes again after the v16.5 release?

Sure. Just leave a review on this Nexus page at Download.com. Thanks. :)
