Wondered if anybody could help?
My wife had an hour or so playing on a game on my laptop, after which I found my desktop totally messed up, icons in the wrong place, screen elements where they shouldn't be etc.
I have managed to restore most stuff, all apart from nexus.....all the icons have vanished and I am left with just the nexus tile!
I have tried for som time now to get back the icons that where there when I first installed Winstep, but just can't seem to figure it out.
I do have to say at this point, although I was impressed enough with this software to acctually buy it (a rare event), I do find it a little unstable and find myself constantly putting things back as I left them last time I shut down. Just a minor nag for now, and I am sure it will all be addressed in following versions.
Thanks in advance to anybody who can advise me as I am sure it is something I am overlooking.

I wouldn't call that a minor nag, I would call that a deal breaker. If Winstep software behaved like that on all systems, nobody would be buying it.

This said, I'm not sure what the problem might be (hmmm, apart from your wife deleting stuff behind your back )...

First question: what Windows version are you running under?

Second question: What exactly changes every time you shut down and reboot and does this happen every time?

Third question: what exactly is the problem in getting the NeXuS dock as it was? You can add stuff to NeXuS docks via simple drag & drops and right click context menus.

thanks for geeting back to me.
I am running xp pro by the way.
The problem as best as I can explain is mainly that the nexus dock that appears at the top middle of the desktop with all the icons, Clock, Trashcan, Email, Explorer etc was reduced to just the nexus icon!
Try as hard as I can, I just can't restore it to "as installed".
I can drag some icons into an empty box and it will work fine, I just can't get it back as was.
Also, I am not sure if this is relevent, but the quick launch bar that appears above nextstart sometimes appears over the top of nextstart and not docked along the top edge as it should be, sometimes it appears halfway up the screen on my desktop, it appears its a random thing and if I close and restart nextstart a couple of times, it seems to come right........till tomorrow, then I have to do it all again!
Sorry if that is not verry clear, but it seems to make sense to me as I read it.....but then, I am sat in front of it!!!
And just in case....I have banned the wife from going anywhere near my laptop in future, so she now sticks her toungue out at it everytime she walks past it!

Ah, you mean you want it exactly as it was, in-dock modules like the Recycler and all? Hmmm, I'm afraid I don't have the time right now to explain how to do it, but I'll get back to you on this one Friday at the latest, don't worry.



Are you sure it's que Quick Launch bar and not the systray? Any chance of sending me a desktop screenshot with this happening to the support@winstep.net address?
