I have inserted a program item into the dock by copying the pgm location from an existing shortcut: %windir%\system32\SnippingTool.exe
However when clicking on that icon in the dock nothing happens.
So I opened Dock Item Properties again and clicked on Find Item => The Workshelf Browser does not display this pgm in its list:

.
I must rebuild a complete dock-setup due to severe Windows problems ending up in a complete re-installation. The effect described appears to many programs, but for example not to %SystemRoot%\system32\charmap.exe, H:\Fonts+Icon\BabelStone\BabelMap.exe, ...

Fiddling around a lot I find the following:
    - Program location is already entered in the Properties field
    - Fo1r verification I click Find Item
    - Workshelf Browser has the pgm name in File name field
=> this file is not displayed in the list pane
Hence I cancel to be back in the Tool Property dialogue
    - Cut the entry Filename
    - Clear the field Icon Path
    - Click Find Item
    - Paste into the File name field, remove last part (to have only the path)
    - Click Open to navigate into the correct directory
=> VoilĂ : the desired file is listed, can be selected and with Open the Dock Item is correctly defined and opens as intended.

IMHO this a quite strange behaviour of a file browser

WorkShelf uses the standard Windows browser dialog.

Off the top of my head I can think of three things that might be related to this:

1. 'File system re-direction' for 32 bit applications in 64 bit systems (have you already tried looking for that file in C:\Windows\SysWow64 instead?)

2. Folder and file virtualization (VirtualStore), activated when applications try to write to a protected location (although as far as I know that should have the opposite effect, i.e.; the browser would show files that aren't actually there when you view that folder in Explorer).

3. The file has the hidden or system attributes.

What happens if you drag the actual file from an Explorer window into the dock (instead of manually entering a path to it in the Item Properties Editor)?

Thank You for the answer,
None of these specialities seem to be relevant for the files. The problem however appears only for those tab or dock entries which have been defined already and I want to verify the pgm location.
Setting up new entries is not a problem at all. And the task itself is not done that frequently.
So lwt's close this thread.

Thank You
