 Post subject: Beta 15.12 has stopped working.

Workshelf has stopped working. Message says "Workshelf has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is found." Yeah, right!!

i have uninstalled multiple times rebooted and reinstalled 15.9, rebooted and installed 15.12 . The last time I cleared the registry of all entries that I could find related to Winstep Xtreme, Workshelf and NextStart. Still getting the same message. Therefore I am unable to run Ver 15.12 .

I am attaching one of the error logs created at the time of one of the crashes.

Wait, not sure if I understood: you re-installed v15.9 and that works, it's only when you install v15.12 beta that it immediately stops working?

Was this sudden? Something you changed in your system just before, e.g.; updated any Stardock software?

This started yesterday (01/07/2016). I have been running 15.12 since ti was released with no problems. I have wracked what few brain cells I have left and cannot think of any changes upgrades, new installs, etc. There was a Windows update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3133431) that was installed on 01/05. That is all that I can think of.

Winstep applications do not use Flash or any IE DLLs, but we never know what other related files a Microsoft update might change - and these days they are not exactly known for great QA before releasing an update into the wild (a recent borked Windows updated managed to break ALL existing dock applications lol)

So far Nexus Ultimate 15.12 is working fine on my Windows 10 machine...

Any recent hardware changes?

Also, check to see if you have a Windows Restore Point available just before this started happening.

Also, does the crash happen immediately upon startup of WorkShelf, even before you see anything on the screen?

I reverted back using System Restore from 1/5/16 which was the restore point associated with the Windows update of Flash for IE. I had to reinstall 15.19 because it was no longer showing in the Winstep directory. That worked fine, then rebooted and installed 15.12 and it is now working. I honestly wish I could tell you that I had made changes or installed something new or added a piece of exotic hardware.....but none of that happened. I guess it was the M$ gremlins at work :lol:

I thought everything was OK ...... but, it seems that whenever i reboot my PC the problem manifests itself again. I then uninstall the beta, reboot, install 15.9, install beta and everything works until the next time I reboot. I have decided to not use the beta version at this time and wait for the next release and see if the problem persists. :cry:

That most likely won't fix the problem, whatever it is.

There will be a new beta before the official release, but I doubt very much that the same problem won't happen again until we determine the cause. Unfortunately, since this is something specific to your system, this is a lot more up to you than to me - you have to experiment.

Were you using any features new to the beta that you are not using in the previous official release? Battery Monitor or Alarms, for instance?
