When I click on the start menu icon, it bounces but nothing happens. There's no instructions on how to activate the start menu.

Sorry if this has been addressed before but the search term "start menu" is invalid in this forum.

Good thing I read your other post first and know you're NOT running Explorer (not exactly an 'irrelevant detail' to a question like this).

Press the WIN key. Nothing happens?

There's the reason why Nexus doesn't show the Start Menu either... because you aren't running Windows Explorer! The Start Menu is provided by Explorer. Since Explorer is not running there is no Start Menu to show either - and Nexus can not make one out of thin air.

Why don't you try Winstep Xtreme instead? The NextSTART component has a Start Menu and taskbar replacement.

This said, there are other functions that depend on Explorer being running, such as system tray icons, and without it those will not work either.

Winstep applications are shell *extensions*, not shell replacements. They were meant to run on top of Windows Explorer (or at least another compatible shell) not to *be* the shell.

I downloaded Winstep Xtreme and it's absolutely wonderful! It even overcomes the Google Chrome bug where if Chrome is maximized it inhibits the start menu.

I'll give it a try for a few days to make sure it doesn't interfere with anything but I'm pretty sure you've made the sale already.

Ever thought of making a Windows Explorer replacement to go along with this? I use xplorer2 for the file manager so that I don't have to deal with the Explorer Jump Bug as well as a number of other issues, but it would be nice to replace it completely so that File Open boxes wouldn't have the bugs as well.
