The weather module disappears from the taskbar occasionally. It does this after the screen saver locks the computer (corporate environment), and the next morning I come in to find it missing after logging on. Closing and reopening the weather module fixes it.

My taskbar covers two screens vertically and autohides. If an app is maximized in the bottom screen, it sometimes covers the taskbar strip. Neither hovering over it nor bumping the side works. So I have to move the cursor to the top screen to bring up the taskbar. Maximized apps in the top screen can cause the taskbar strip to disappear but the edge bump still works.

Time announcements can't be shut off. I've disabled the announcements ("How often would you like the time announced?" = Never) but they still occur. And when I select a chime instead ("What type of announcement would you like to hear?" = Chimes), I still get voice announcements. At least it doesn't announce during the defined silent period. This only happens if the clock module is running.

The edge of the (vertical) taskbar causes the cursor to go to resizing mode, but the taskbar can't be resized. It appears to be locked to the width of the weather module.

Very minor stuff. So minor it took me a couple weeks to report it. As it is, I very rarely use the taskbar anymore thanks to the Workshelf.

BTW, there's a lengthy discussion going on in the Microsoft Answers forum about the taskbar failing to autohide. I put in a blatant mention about Winstep Xtreme and how NextSTART helped me solve that problem.

Hmmm...

Winstep applications are constantly on the look-out for when a full screen application (e.g.; a game) is running. Please note that full screen application is NOT the same as a maximized window.

Anyway, when the Winstep application detects a full screen application is running, besides automatically disabling all edge bump and hot-key activation methods (so your gaming is not interrupted by a dock suddenly popping up on top of the guy you are trying to shoot ;-) ) it also disables a lot of things that are regularly refreshed.

The latter is done in an effort NOT to take resources away from your game refreshing things (such as the clock) that in theory are not even visible at the time because your game is running full screen.

Of course, these days with a lot of people running multi-monitor setups (including me, I have three 30" monitors running at 2560x1600 each) a game might be full screen in one monitor but not on the remaining monitors, which still display your Windows desktop.

This thus complicates things further, and I haven't looked at it in a long time. Guess I need to, but not for the v16.3 release as it is something that requires careful planning first.

Anyway, all this to say the following: since a screen-saver runs full screen (and here I don't use screen-savers, I just let the system power-off my monitors), I suspect your issue might be caused by the Winstep application failing to refresh the module because the screen-saver is currently running.

There is a way to detect if a screen-saver is currently running, so to see if it fixes the problem, I'm going to make the screen-saver an exception to the 'full screen' rule and see what happens.

That is another area that needs work. In the old times you could only 'reserve screen space' for toolbars on the PRIMARY monitor. That limitation no longer exists in the latest versions of Windows, but I have never updated NextSTART to reflect this (note that this is not true for WorkShelf, docks and the Shelf are able to correctly reserve screen space on ANY monitor).

This is something that obviously affects the NextSTART taskbar when it is set to extend beyond the primary monitor, and explains why your maximized application is able to overlap the taskbar on your secondary monitor.

This is something that is currently high on the to-do list.

Are you sure you're not running the free version of Nexus at the same time?

Anyway, I will try to reproduce the issue here, but, if I can't, the most likely explanation is that you are running BOTH WorkShelf.exe and Nexus.exe at the same time. So you disable it in, say, WorkShelf, but Nexus is still announcing the time.

Vertical taskbars are 'special'. The width is calculated automatically, depending on the biggest object contained by the taskbar.

Minor or not, I don't like bugs. :D

Thanks! Unlike Stardock, I'm not very good (at all!) at marketing, so word-of-mouth really helps. :)

Just tested that here and disabling the time announcement worked as it should. So, again, I think you might be running the free version of Nexus and WorkShelf/Nexus Ultimate at the same time.
