Jorge,

I'm just assuming that "Show Desktop" is attempting to show everything on the Desktop, even the invisible.

Never mind. It probably only affects Nexus users who have the misfortune of using BitDefender. Nobody but BitDefender would create an invisible window. Right?

Thanks,
Grouch

P.S.

Does "Nexus Ultimate" install in the same directories as "Nexus Free"? I'm curious because I have some of my own themes.

Wrong. Nexus also creates an invisible control window, lol :D

Anyway, Show Desktop does not turn windows invisible, it just changes the z-order of some windows.

Does that window only turn visible after you using 'Show Desktop'?

Yes.

No. Didn't use "Show Desktop". It just appears.

Like I said, forget it. It only affects a limited few.

Thanks,
Grouch

What is the exact build number of Nexus (right click the executable file or click the version number in the About tab of Preferences)?

Could be that I left a debugging 'beep' in the code by accident, sorry.

Hi Winstep,

excuse me I not understand but why do you have not included in the last version the my new skins 2012 and cancelled the skins Leonida3dthin e Leopard?

Jorge,

winstep wrote:
Thing is, I cannot reproduce this here, and the only Beep I found that I had accidentally left in the code when debugging was related to the 'Show Desktop' function.

It seemed reasonable to assume that some global routine that would cause a Beep on any window open/close, could also affect the visibility of a window. As I stated before, 11.1 didn't make the window visible, but 12.2 does. Obviously something global has changed to cause this. Perhaps the z-level of the window was beneath the desktop before, and now the z-level has changed making it visible. Possible?

Thanks,
Grouch

I was thinking about this too.

Remember those beeps I left in the code by accident and then removed? The application would beep on 'Show Desktop' and then again on exit of 'Show Desktop'.

There is no Windows notification that tells an application when Show Desktop is in effect, so Nexus determines this by constantly checking if a full screen window with a worker_w class name is the current foreground window.

This is what Windows does when you ask it to 'Show Desktop', it places the icons, taskbar, etc, inside this worker_w window and then brings it to the top of the z-order.

One explanation for the beeps is that, on your system, something similar to 'Show Desktop' was happening every time you launched an application. This would have caused the beeps.

Of course, if that is so, it's definitely not normal behavior.

Jorge,

Okay, so what does that mean for me? Yes, the beeps are gone, but I still have the elevated window. Am I just stuck with it? Granted, thus far, BitDefender is the only application affected.

Thanks,
Grouch

P.S.

I did receive the Info and validation key for Nexus Ultimate. I'll spend the weekend trying to figure out the extra features.

Well, the problem is that this seems to be something specific to your system. I don't even know if BitDefender is the cause of the problem *or* a casualty of whatever is doing this. You're focusing on BitDefender but it could be anything else.

Without being there I can't troubleshoot your system to figure out what is happening and what is causing it. Unless more users come forward with a similar problem (so I can find a pattern/common cause) there isn't much I can do.

Take the Intel/nVidia graphic chipset combo which caused Nexus to malfunction: it took a long time to identify that this was the common denominator between all those suffering from the issues, and it took some detective work to figure out what was actually happening.

Same thing happened a few years ago with the Logitech's Setpoint mouse driver sending WM_PAINT messages to layered windows (which caused them to blank out) and Logitech's webcam control panel applet corrupting the stack and crashing any application that displayed the contents of the Control Panel.

The problem is that there are just too many software/hardware combinations out there all interacting with one another and some doing very unusual things.

Jorge,

I can be grateful that I only have to access BitDefender three times a week when I force a full system scan. I can work around it.

I'm looking forward to the experimentation with Nexus Ultimate this weekend. I don't know what to do with the shelves, yet. I hope you have good documentation. lol

Thanks,
Grouch

Ahaha! Actually, currently you only have the detailed Nexus Ultimate FAQs on the Winstep web site, but I do have a professional technical writer working on the new User Guide as we speak.

Winstep applications were one of the very few - if not the only - applications of its kind that *did have* a very detailed User Guide, but that changed with the great UI makeover that happened a couple of years ago.

Anyway, you are going to love the Shelf, and I'm pretty sure you won't run out of ideas on what to do with it.

Hi Winstep,

why have you deleted my question about new skins in your last version of Nexus and have not you answered me? :?

I have another question too...

I have found a small problem in nexus for a long time. Look the photo:

I and many friends would like to have the browser in full screen but for to do this needs to disable the option "Prevent maximized windows from overlaping the dock" in menù Position but so making the icons of the desktop they are overlapped by the dock. How to do for having the browser in full screen without the Nexus overlaps the icons of the desktop?

thanks for both answers :D

I'm currently having a problem with the newest Nexus Ultimate 12.02.1001

Any new windows at the end of the dock shelf seem to be "sunk" into the dock. See the last 2 icons (right hand side) on the shelf...
Image

The most annoying part is when I am copying a file, the icon on the dock constantly zooms off the dock and then reappears back on the dock causing the shelf to continuously resize itself.

I have tried disabling icon reflections and then icon shadow, both have no effect on this problem. This problem was definately not there before the recent upgrade. I have not tried reverting back to before the upgrade yet but this is so annoying that I will be doing it very soon. If you want I can probably even post a short video clip of it happening.

What mouseover effect are you using for the dock?

This I've already fixed here, thanks.

It will stop happening if you group task icons, a work-around until the new update is released.

Did you notice the size of the change long for v12.2? Just wondering. :D

Unfortunately in applications as complex as this one, bugs will creep in if you make a lot of changes, even after rigorous testing - what really matters is how fast they're fixed.

Only thing I still don't know why it happens is new icons getting stuck at the beginning of the new item effect, but my guess is that this might have something to do with the mouseover effect you are using.

Otherwise a video would be nice. :D
