I am confused. Can someone explain this to me?

I bought this program in March of 2012 with the one year subscription for updates. I got Winstep Nexus Ultimate V12.2.

I was (and still am) happy with the software. But there was nothing happening. No notice of announcements. It really looked like it was dead so decided not to renew my subscription.

Finally 2 years 8 months later there's an update!!

Now it's up to V14.11!! Is the version number just the release date? Thats really misleading to the customer. Thats not even how version numbering works either!! At best this should be V12.5

It's nice to see the software is still being worked on. But I'm going to wait for a much better update to renew my subscription.

rob49152 first yes it's the version number(year/Month). second we are not going to get into how jorge comes up with the version number in this thread, there is a discussion here somewhere on how he does please refer to that. third please do not hijack my thread again.

"We" can get into whatever we want. The topic is Nexus 14. That's the version number. Nobody hijacked anything.

oh i don't know maybe why you said it was FREE for ALL registered customers aka registered users when it's not. you do realize "REGISTERED CUSTOMERS" AKA "REGISTERED USERS" include ALL people who have registered(bought)their software even ones who's license has expired, right?

You should ask Jorge about that. I'm just the moderator of the forum, I don't work for Winstep nor do I have any knowledge nor influence on licencing matters.
Why ask me?

well then right out of the gate you should of deferred to jorge, cause what i specifically asked was if this was a free upgrade considering how low it's been since there was an update.

Download it and find out. If it lets you, it's free.

just shutup

unlike you skagon and jorge know my question is rhetorical, and that i'm actually asking why this was not a free upgrade like it should of been.

Unlike you, an intelligent person would recognize satire. And, for the record, it's "should have". "Should of" makes no sense. Also, for the record, it is a free update.

Having enjoyed the playful banter of this thread, it occurred to me that as I was also waiting for an upgrade/new version, call it what you will, before renewing my subscription. It was time to get out the wallet and pay up. Might I suggest a short note in the announcement section. might be financially benefit to Jorge.

A happy Winstep user, (as I am sure everyone here is)

"Don't play games and we won't have a problem" ??? Are you threatening me? We already have a problem with your attitude, and, considering you were banned and you made a fake account and are still in here, it's not *me* who's playing games!
And yes... guess what!
You're banned!

...and after your last post, I'll also be banning your IP, Chucky. Don't know (and don't care) if you ever get to see this, but enough is enough.

Good! That means v14.11 will work with your existing license key. I wasn't insensitive to the fact that many users who registered in 2012 never got their year's worth of updates, so for v14.11 I 'cheated' on the internal dates that allow a license key to work with a particular update or not.

As you should. You don't need to renew unless there is a new update *and* your current license key does not cover it.

Winstep Xtreme is a suite of applications, according to your reasoning each different application would have a very different version number (NextSTART development, for instance, started many years before WorkShelf's). To avoid that kind of mess, it was decided a long time ago that version numbering would be based on year and month of release.

You can base your decision to renew or not on the list of new features/bug fixes that is clearly shown on the News page at the Winstep web site for each release. Not misleading at all, IMO.

As I said, v14.11 will work with your existing key. Anyway, you are never forced to renew, that always remains your decision to make.

Jorge, please clarify this. What is the actual cutoff date that the v14.11 update will work with an existing license?

Edit: Never mind. I found the answer in a post in the beta forum: 21 Jul 12. Guess I missed it by 27 days. :(
