Winstep Xtreme users can download the new beta from:

http://www.winstep.net/xtreme-beta.zip

Nexus Ultimate users can download the new beta from:

http://www.winstep.net/ultimate-beta.zip

IMPORTANT: This beta package is an update and MUST be installed on top of a previous Winstep Xtreme/Nexus Ultimate v15.9 or later installation!

This is a beta. Please do not share this link outside this forum.

Before running the Setup file, remember to exit all Winstep applications first.

###

Most of what's new in this beta is described in THIS TOPIC HERE.

Highlights are new battery module, clock alarms, ability to minimize windows to the dock, and much smoother drag & drop operations on the dock.

Jorge, this update prompted me to ask a couple of questions. Most programs have a "check for updates" button on the "About" tab in settings or help. Winstep puts it under "Advanced" instead. Should it maybe be moved to the "About" tab, or at least have a duplicate button there? Also, even though I have "Notify me of beta (test versions" checked, it did not find this one.

Because the Automatic Update settings are all there, so it makes sense to have that button there as well.

You might have a point, but in that case I would be more inclined to duplicate the button and put it under the Version Number at the top right corner.

Because this is a semi-public beta. I made the mistake a long, long, time ago of enabling the "Notify me of beta versions' setting by default, when in hindsight it should be something the user explicitly chooses to enable, or not.

So now I avoid releasing public betas through the Winstep Update Manager like the plague. Not sure how to solve this one... perhaps make the next release automatically disable that setting on all systems - interested users can then turn it back on if they want to.

Ok, added a 'Check for Updates' button to the About tab of NextSTART/WorkShelf/Ultimate/Nexus.

Cool. I only suggested it because that's where people have been trained by other programs to look for it. I know I personally missed it the first time I looked for it.

Dell XPS 15 laptop
Windows 7 Pro 32-bit

The battery module indicates Charge is at 482% when laptop is plugged in. It appears to reflect normal charge percentage when the laptop is unplugged.

LOL! She Cannae Take Anymore Captain, She's Going to Blow!

Current charge percentage is obtained by dividing the reported current capacity by full capacity. Guess your battery reports a weird value when it's plugged in.

Thanks, I'll fix it by capping the battery charge to 100%.

However, one important question still remains: is the charge reported accurate *when the battery is charging* or you immediately start getting weird values as soon as you plug it in even if it's still not at 100%? If the later, do those values change as the battery charges? Do you even get the charging animation?

And another question: how long do you have that laptop for? Look at that battery health value, if that is accurate, your battery is pretty much a goner (i.e.; it is only giving you 21% of the runtime it gave you when it was new).

EDIT: Never mind, I just noticed the manufacture date. :D

Charging percentage reflects accurate values. Animation works fine.

As for laptop age: March 2008. Replaced battery with "new" one from Dell in 2011-12.

Yep... Need a new laptop!

So, it only shows that absurd value once it's fully charged? Looks to me that when it's fully charged it reports the 'what the capacity would be if the battery was brand new' instead of *actual* capacity.

1999 'new'?

Absolutely correct. As soon as it's fully charged, it makes the "if brand new" calculation.

Something seems amiss with the age information for the battery. I also am showing 11-30-1999. This is a CyberPower Backup battery purchased just over a year ago.

You're right, same thing is happening here with my laptop's battery, same date and all. I must have broken something regarding the date when I converted the battery functions from sync to async.

Ok, the problem with that date is that it actually means the information is not available (i.e.; the battery is not reporting a manufacturing date). Most, if not all, laptop batteries don't, apparently - my APC UPS does, however.

Due to an error when converting the battery functions from sync to async, instead of reporting N/A for the date then, it reports 30/11/1999.

Fixed, thanks.
