Hi

Hoping I can get my key before Christmas (it's a gift for myself LOL).

BMT Micro Order (50303003).

Thanks

Toby

Update: key received.

Per my other post here, I will attempt to use the key to register on both my laptop and my virtual machine and see if that works.

Should be alright, I'm sure. :)

Confirmed you are correct. I installed eXtreme on my VM (so second installation) and registered using the same key, and it registered just fine :D

And as a bonus, I "fixed" the Windows 11 missing system tray icon issue by ... deploying my VM using Windows 10! LOL! No more M$ spyware "features" (recall, copilot ai) for me!

I'll be rolling back to Windows 10 on my laptop too so both installations will be feature locked for the next 7 years (I'm using a special enterprise version of Win 10 to avoid the end-of-support deadline next year).

My plan is to wait out the coming storm of Microsoft's move towards completely messing up Windows and see where we land by 2031.

Yeaah, I'm sure it's fine, esp. as Jorge has been keeping an eye on what's happening in the forums. :)

Good move, reverting to Win 10. However, that's got more than enough spyware itself, alas. For ways to get rid of most or even all of that, keep a lookout for the upcoming supplements for Win and macOS under the 'Online Security & Privacy 101' topic. Unfortunately, I had to temporarily stop working on these a couple of weeks ago but hope to be able to get back to them RSN.

Got the Enterprise Version here, too. Price was a ridiculous bargain-basement one! :D

I wouldn't bet though on Windows desktop still being around by '31.

Ok great, I'm glad Jorge knows I'm using the key twice.

Yep, after much deliberation around Windows 11 and the future, the issues with Winstep on Win11, and my increasing concerns about privacy in general, I bit the bullet and went back to Win10. FYI, you're correct about the low price of Win10 Enterprise *wink wink*

Re: privacy on Win10, I'll keep an eye out for the updates to your Privacy 101 thread and apply whatever makes sense. My goal with my VM is to create a super-secure enclave that has the least chance of being breeched, so I'll be applying all manner of tools etc to lock it down. I don't have any highly sensitive projects, but I like the idea of keeping my stuff private because ... it's my stuff and none of anyone else's business!

Re: Windows not being around in 31 ... I'm not sure if *I* will be around in 31!! *rofl* But yeah, who knows with the way M$ are messing around at the moment *shrug* Seems like the young interns are running the show. M$ might end up going the way of Intel (what a sad state of affairs ... they used to be the "chip leader" and now what? Bankrupt maybe? What the hell happened?!?!).

Ok, back to wrangling VirtualBox into shape...

Cheapest bit of software I ever bought! :D

That's the right attitude! :) Privacy is at the root of freedom. Lose that and we lose everything. There's a lot of good programmes around to keep Windblows in check. Beyonf that, I can't recommend Proton highly enough, even if only for the free versions.

Not sure I'll be around in '31 myself, and sometimes I'm not sure I still want to be around then, the way the climate catastrophe is unfolding with no more than lip service and 'band aid' measures to change things, and also the way society is developing, or rather, devolving. :(

As for M$, who knows, a lot can happen in these affairs in a relatively short time. The main problems with Windows, as I see them, are that M$ is happy enough using users as their 'quality control', and that the revenue from Win is now only marginal. Heck, with Ubuntu now being capable of running both in Terminal mode and GUI mode with WSL2, who knows, MS might even replace Win with Linux - perhaps some kind of Ubuntu spin-off requiring minimal staff! And as re: Intel, who knows what's happening there. Wouldn't bother me if they went tits up, always did prefer AMD.

Now that's a very interesting idea re: Ubuntu (I wasn't aware of the increased WSL2 support for Ubuntu). I've tinkered with both Ubuntu and WSL in the past - might add WSL2 tinkering to my to do list (albeit that bloody list just keeps getting longer not shorter LOL).

Also, I couldn't agree more re: the world going to shite recently. I'm choosing to remain hopeful that things might take a turn for the better in the coming years, but we're definitely balancing on a knife's edge right now that's for sure.

Bear in mind though that all this is entirely M$ produced, so there's none of the privacy and security of proper Canonical's Ubuntu. I gave up on it a while ago and when I do have to use Windows, I've got a couple of VMs with Ubuntu available. (But most of the time - about 85-90% - I just boot Ubuntu or sometimes another 'buntu flavour or Fedora.)

Yep. it's all going to pot. In this case, my glass is more than half empty, alas. While profit and mammon rule there will never be any meaningful change. While I could hardly give a shiny shite about mankind becoming extinct (long overdue anyway), it saddens me that we're taking all other lifeforms with us.

Nowhere near the top of the evolutionary tree though - there are other species who are far more intelligent than humans and not dumb enough to breed like a cancer and think they can go on forever as a species. Not how evolution/nature works. Thank goodness. 8)
