Gmail however does not work with the module. I get the message: + OK Gpop ready for requests from xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I have tried just about any possibl;e setting. Pop3 and Imap, using SSL and port 995. Still get the same message from Gmail
Any idea??

I use the Email Checker to monitor a Gmail account here and it's working correctly, but I download the messages to Outlook (POP3). Here are the settings I use:

Server Type: POP3
Port: 995
POP3 Server: pop.gmail.com
Requires Encrypted Connection (SSL): Enabled

Also, just noticed (and fixed here) that there is a bug where the per account 'Last Checked' and 'Response' information is incorrectly reported in the Email Checker Settings dialog if you open it from the right click context menu. Opening it from the Modules tab in Preferences will display the correct information.

Hi

I am using the same setup. Yet it does not work. When I use the POP server I get an error report, when I use the IMAP server and use pop.gmail.com and the same portnumber (995), I get the message mentioned before.

Normally I download the messages tro Windows 10 mail

Okay. I used exactly the same setup as you did. POP3 server, pop.gmail.com and port 995. My username without @gmail.com
Now I get the advice to go to support.googl.com/mail/answer/78754
Which gives me the same info.
Is not it strange?

Not really. The login name I use is my full Gmail address (i.e.; with @gmail.com at the end), you must use yours too.

Are you using Gmail's Two-Step Authentication?

Ok, that message you mentioned '+ OK Gpop ready for requests' was only when using the IMAP protocol. Now that you are using POP3, the message must be different.

Do this *exactly*: open Preferences, go to the Modules tab, select the Email Checker module, click Email Checker Settings button, select the Gmail account in the Email Checker Settings dialog.

What does it say in 'Response'? Is the 'Last Checked' date and time correct?

Also: are you running the latest version of the Winstep software (v17.1)?

My symptom has changed a bit but I am still unable to get the email checker to work. I have removed it several times, created new accounts trying to get it to work.
I currently have it configured for POP3 with SSL, port 995. I have the settings exactly the same as I do for my Outlook client which works.
When I click Check Email absolutely nothing seems to happen. The envelope doesn't "shake".
The tooltip message is "Connection Failed!". The Response is "Generic error for access violation."
Any idea what might be wrong or what I can do to get it working?

This is not an issue with the Email Checker, but with how your Gmail account is configured. Do a Google search for "Web login required" and try a few of the suggestions you find to solve the problem.

That seems to be a problem with the cryptographic network protocol on the server side? Do you have any other email account you can try the Email Checker on, that also requires SSL?

Jorge,

Do you happen to know of a free service where I could set up a POP3 account to test? If I am not mistaken, Gmail and Yahoo mail are both IMAP.

Any suggestion is appreciated.
Randy

I discovered that I was able to use Yahoo mail in POP3 SSL mode. I set it up and tried it. The behavior is exactly the same trying to connect to Yahoo as it is to AT&T. The account works fine in Outlook but the Email Checker gets the "Generic error for access violation"

I had upgraded to Windows 10 some time back. I can't recall whether the Email Checker ever worked afterword. Could that be a factor in this?

Hi Jorge

I checked my google web mail and there is no report at all of being blocked after logging in from other browsers or apps.

I installed another mail client and there were no problems logging in.
