This particular forum may be concerned with translations of Winstep apps but nonetheless this is an English language forum. Kindly post in English, or post French with a machine translation into English if your command of English is insufficient. |

efer wrote: with Nexus ultimate the accented characters in French are replaced by symbols how to fix it? Go to the Windows Control Panel, Region applet , Administrative tab, click Change System Local button, set the current system locale to French, restart your PC. Whatever you do, do NOT enable the "Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8..." |

Why is it that we shouldn't enable the Use Unicode beta option in Windows? |

Because it will break some programs that still Use ANSI even if the correct code page is selected. IIRC it even caused Winstep apps to crash randomly when using UWP apps. |

Regardless of the effect on other programs, I was hoping that Nexus (I am running 24.04.1190) would display characters correctly when I tell Windows to use Unicode (beta setting) and then I set the Nexus language to French. But it doesn't. Even if I set the Windows language for non-unicode programs to French. |

You must be doing something wrong then, see below... ah, if you change the non-unicode language to French and disable the beta setting, you must then at the very least restart the Winstep application. Not sure if a reboot is required but I think not.

The problem is that UTF-8 is NOT the same as ANSI, and so you get the weird characters in ANSI applications even when the system locale (language for non-unicode programs) is set to French. To correctly display French characters in the Winstep application and other ANSI applications, the Beta setting must be disabled. |

Because I have some command line programs running in PowerShell that produce Unicode output out of a database, and they work better with that setting enabled. I was just hoping there was a way to get Nexus to work with that. But it's not a deal-breaker for me. Thank you again for a great product. |
