The shelfs are now still in the left above (wrong) position. And i have changed nothing yet.
What should I do now and in what order?

The profiles confirm the monitor temporarily appeared as 1024×768 at 96 DPI this morning. That explains the miniature docks before Windows reported the proper configuration and they moved into place.

Before the Shelves had a chance to return to their normal positions, did you click anywhere on either Shelf or dock - even just on an icon or tab?

No, i saw the docks flying to their normal position. And the shelves are stil in the wrong position and format. (I waited for your instructions)

The first click I made was on a dock to open the preferences window so i could reach the profiles folder.

Shall I move the shelves now to my default position?

Yes, please move and resize the Shelves back to their normal positions now. I already have the profile files I needed. Thanks for waiting and for confirming the exact sequence of events.

And apologies for the late reply, had to catch some sleep.

Looks like a race condition.

Was this when returning from sleep or when turning on all the monitors? If the former, roughly how many seconds does it usually take for everything to "calm down" display wise?

Hi, i did not count the seconds, but mostly I click hibernate and then shut down my monitor (1 monitor, i do not have two)
When i turn on the computer, i click the powerbutton of my pc and then the power button of my monitor.
Then the monitor seeks for the usb c connection

Today i turned the computer on (from hibernate) but did not turn on the monitor (because i was distracted and turned the monitor an hour later on.

And now again the shelves etc were in the left above corner. (and docks fly away to their normal position. the shelves did not move.

When you say "fly away" do you mean that literally or figuratively? That is, do you actually see the docks moving to their new position or do they just pop in in their proper positions?

They are first small and tiny and then I see them grow en move (fly) automatically to there normal position. (that is moving to the right and left side of my screen. And then hiding there as usual)

That's not what is supposed to happen.

Is there any way you can record what happens on your phone or something and then send me the video to the Winstep support address?

Thanks for the video, that helps a lot.

See, there is a TON of things happening very rapidly and almost at the same time when you switch your monitor on.

Notice how the dock and the shelf are initially constrained to a very small space on top left quadrant of your monitor? Apparently that is because initially the monitor appears to Windows as 1024x768 at 100% DPI. Then the actual native resolution kicks in, BUT SO DOES a display DPI change (which sends a WM_DPICHANGED message to the docks and shelves)

It is this DPI changed message that causes the docks to recalculate their position, icon size, etc and thus "fly over" to their final position (as it should do if, for instance, you move a dock to another monitor with different DPI settings). However, this should not happen if the application is currently busy waiting to process the monitor profiles, it should wait until that finishes.

I think that is the issue here.

As you can see, nothing complicated, eh? :D
