I find the Shelf rather redundant, since I have enough funcionality with the Nexux toolbar and my NextStart menus. Can I disable it? I've tried numerous time to do this but have been unsuccessful.

Currently there is no function to disable it (thinking about implementing that for next release, although I fear it might be a bit complicated because so many basic functions depend on the shelf) but read the following thread for a workaround:

Thanks Jorge, I did search the forums before posting, but I guess not well enough. Just read that thread and followed the instructions.

There's been so many people asking for this feature that I decided to give in and I'm currently re-organizing and re-writting a ton of code so the shelf can be trully unloaded instead of just hidden (don't be surprised if you don't hear of me for a year or two, though ).

Seriously, the problem is that WorkShelf was build from the ground up with the shelf on the primary role (desktop modules and NeXuS were added later), so basically all control and timer routines (and there are many, as you can imagine) were coded on the assumption that the shelf would always be there. Changing this is proving to be a major headache, just as I predicted, and has the potential to introduce a LOT of bugs.

Let's hope not, since now that I started this I have no other choice but to finish it.

Ok, it took me a few hours, but I'm now running WorkShelf without a shelf.

No idea how many bugs were introduced by this, though, guess the beta testers will have to work very hard this time.

There is a new private beta out that allows you to completely turn off the shelf. If you are not a member of the Beta Discussion Forums yet (you need to be a registered Winstep user to gain access, though) please follow the directions on how to join here:
