why have you deleted my question about new skins in your last version of Nexus and have not you answered me? :?

I didn't delete anything.

Anyway, freeworld, I think you mean well, but please understand that ultimately it's Winstep that decides which skins and themes ship with the applications.

I'm happy that you like Nexus and I appreciate that you went to the trouble of making a couple of new dock backgrounds. You can share your work with others via Wincustomize and Deviantart, if you want. :D

I and many friends would like to have the browser in full screen but for to do this needs to disable the option "Prevent maximized windows from overlaping the dock" in menù Position but so making the icons of the desktop they are overlapped by the dock. How to do for having the browser in full screen without the Nexus overlaps the icons of the desktop?

That's not possible, sorry, because the what prevents maximized windows from overlapping the shelf and what causes the desktop icons to shift is the very same thing: windows appbars.

What mouseover effect are you using for the dock?

Actually I'm not using any mouseover or laund effect and bounce for the attention effect. Fluid Surface, Water Ripple, Background Blue, and Raindrop effect disabled.

This I've already fixed here, thanks.

It will stop happening if you group task icons, a work-around until the new update is released.

Sounds great, looking forward to this.

Did you notice the size of the change long for v12.2? Just wondering. :D

Unfortunately in applications as complex as this one, bugs will creep in if you make a lot of changes, even after rigorous testing - what really matters is how fast they're fixed.

I've done programing in the past so yes this I can understand. No I haven't looked at the change log... at least not yet

Then have a look at THIS. Particularly the bottom part. The one with the wall of text.

Hi Jorge

Long time no see ;)

I just updated to version 12.2
I can't help being surprised by the huge amount of new features. Congratulations on your continued development!

As you know I'm a minimalist and I use Nexus as a taskbar replacement (to complement my Emerge Desktop shell).
Additionally I'm still using Win XP AND I use mostly Open Source software.

I'm aware that there are serious limitations in the way that XP gets thumbnails and that OSS uses GTK and other libraries that have some problems under Windows, so I'm quite used that the thumbnails show a black square.

But this one has got me puzzled: why is Nexus showing the VLC icon overlaid on the Iconic window thumbnail for LibreOffice? In the Windows preview thumbnail title the correct icon is displayed...

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Pedro

Bad news... not able to reproduce it here even after disabling the mouseover and launch effects. The icon plays and completes the 'new item' effect normally, doesn't get 'stuck'.

Can you please give me more details regarding what happens exactly? The dock is open, you launch a new program, the new icon pops up on the dock but only halfway and stays that way, no more movement?

Can you enable a mouseover effect or play with other (related?) settings to see if we figure out a sure way to make this happen every time or not at all?

XP doesn't have live thumbnails, so a function called PrintWindow needs to be used. PrintWindow unfortunately can also cause painting issues on some windows, and doesn't work at all if the window is a layered window.

Can you post a screenshot of this, please?

The icon used can be fetched either from the executable itself or from the window itself, depending on the circumstances. Since I'm not familiar with LibreOffice, I really can't say what is happening without a picture (and even then... :-))

Here it is

Image

The cursor (I couldn't capture it) was placed over the last thumbnail which shows the unmistakable VLC road cone icon.

BTW this happens on both of my PCs so it's not a one-off case of a messed up registry.

Ok, try the following: drag the black iconic preview in the dock to the area where you have your normal shortcuts.

This will create a new shortcut on the dock to whatever executable is responsible for the LibreOffice Writer window. What icon does the new shortcut show and what what is the filename (right click -> Dock Entry Properties) ?

The filename is
c:\program files\libreoffice 3.4\program\soffice.bin

Interesting. Nexus ignores soffice.exe and recognizes soffice.bin...

LibreOffice (a fork of OpenOffice) is a cross platform office suite and there is an soffice.exe which launches soffice.bin. Apparently Nexus is only detecting the bin file which for some obscure reason is associated with VLC (it's not even on the VLC association list...)

I deleted the bin file association and restarted Nexus. Now it shows the Windows default icon.

The interesting part: if I right click on the LO task and choose Change icon, it shows all the icons contained in soffice.bin but selecting the first one does nothing. If I select the second it will show the first... I suspect that the guys at LO don't know that the first icon in an exe is icon 0 (zero) :)

In any case this is a difficult problem because the running file is named soffice.bin but I could be running the Calc module or the Writer module and I would expect to see different icons (and this works in the Explorer taskbar and in Emerge Desktop's own emergeTasks)

Something for you to play with in your spare time :)

And that's the process Windows reports is associated to that window. Blame the OpenOffice developers for doing things the Linux way instead of the Windows way.

There are two things you can do: either set the the application NOT to show application icons for sizes over 32x32 (Preferences -> Tasks -> Advanced -> Iconic Window Thumbnails) and live with the ugly result of scaled up 16x16 icons, _OR_ customize the icon displayed for soffice.bin to that of soffice.exe (Preferences -> Tasks -> Customize Task Icons).

Yep. I found this solution meanwhile ;)
And it works perfectly!
Thanks!

Um abraço!

plino actually the association of .bin by vlc is correct. a lot of moves when extracted off of dvd's were in the .bin/.cue format for easy mounting in windows or to burn to a dvd for watching. vcl chose to allow you to watch the movie without having to do the above, so when installed vlc would take ownership of the .bin extension.

That makes sense. But then it should be listed in the File associations (under Tools, Preferences, Interface, Set up associations, so that you can un-associate :)

"take ownership" is not good :)

Thank you for the tip!
