I'm running the trial of Winstep Xtreme last version (but it does the same with Nexus too), default settings (therefore yes, run at startup option is enabled), and it's the last program I've installed.

My SO: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1.

The problem is that the dock never shows up by itself. It doesn't at startup nor when I manually launch the app. Only shelf shows up, and I'm forced to enter in dock settings from there to be able to see it. No need to say the dock is activated of course.

I've tried to disable all my startup application in order to verify a possible conflict with some other software, but no luck.

Btw, here's the list of my installed programs:

    Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin
    Adobe Shockwave Player
    ASRock XFast RAM
    CCleaner
    ChessBase 10
    Etron USB3.0 Host Controller
    HP LaserJet Professional P1100-P1560-P1600 Series
    Java 7 Update 7
    JavaFX 2.1.1
    Just Great Software EditPad Lite
Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile
    Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Extended
    Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
    Mozilla Firefox 15.0 (x86 it)
    Mozilla Maintenance Service
    PDFCreator
    Process Lasso
    Realtek Ethernet Controller Driver
    Samsung SSD Magician
    Skype™ 5.10
    SumatraPDF
    WinCDEmu
    Windows 7 Codec Pack
    WinRAR 4.00 (64-bit)
    Winstep Xtreme 12.2
    µTorrent

The issue is quite a pain... moreover, my idea was not to use shelves but only the dock, but if I disable the shelf and restart my pc I just get stucked, unable to "see" the program anymore (altought the process "Workshelf.exe" is running in the task manager), and the only solution is to reinstall it.

I'm pretty sure it depends on me somehow, cause I don't read around the forum about similar issue, but still... can't understand what could be.

Have you already tried backing up your current settings and then resetting them to factory default to see if that cures the problem?

You can do this by going to the Advanced tab of WorkShelf Preferences and clicking the Troubleshooting Options button.

Hi Jorge, tnx for your reply. Please, check your pm (I've done an italian translation of NEXTStart and improved a lot the one of WorkShelf too... here's the topic)

As I already mention, I run the program with default settings. Btw yes, I've even tried to restore to factory settings, with no success.

:(

Edit: I've just restored an image of my system disk previously done with acronis, with the same installed softwares except Winstep, to be sure to avoid possible mess due to install-reinstall of the program. The situation is the same, except for the fact that now the dock shows up if I manually run the program. Still not at start up.

Might be a problem with your video drivers or some other obscure problem then.

Since it shows up if you manually run Nexus, try disabling the Auto-Run setting in Preferences and then manually adding a shortcut to Nexus to the Startup group in Programs. This will delay the launching of Nexus at system startup and (hopefully) solve the problem.

Unfortunately this doesn't solve the problem, but gave me a clue... well, maybe.

I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate x64. My graphic card is an Ati Radeon X1950pro 256Mb PciExp Sapphire. I read here that ATI doesn't support it anymore, so there are no real drivers for Windows 7 for this specific vga. I kinda knew it and was using default Windows drivers (I'm not a gamer).

So I went here, filled the forms and the result was this.

So I've tried to install those drivers, but still no luck :(

What do you think... could the problem be there? Could you suggest me something to try? I really like your dock and I really wanna use it damn... I'm even trying to make a chess-theme for everything, but this thing is pissing me off

p.s.
don't you say anything about italian translations...?

EDIT:
Forget vga stuff: following the other clue (delay) I've eventually got it workin using Startup Delayer!
The dark side of the matter is that now I've another app on startup (the startup delayer itself).

All I've done was to disable Winstep internal autorun, adding the shortcut on startup group and setted it to 3 secs delay with Startup Delayer.

Well. Now have to understand what the hell was impeding, cause I've done several tries with all my startup app disabled and the dock wasn't showing up... I suspect the culprit could be Process Lasso, that maybe even if disabled could keep a sort of "memory" for processes priority rules, but it's just a guess by now. I'll try to find out and report it, could be usefull I guess.

Pls let me know the fate of my translations :)

try that instead of startup delay.

Had a look (no problematic startup apps found). It doesn't convince me, maybe the whole web "concept", although have to say is quite original and not lacking some nice features (updater).

Basically, I try to avoid "taking control" apps. I'm indeed looking for the correct command line to get the delay. Hope it does exist some argument that does the job, so I can remove Startup Delayer.

Meanwhile, have to understand what conflicts with our beloved dock :)

If for boot logging you mean the scan of startup apps, yes. It groups them by (in its "opinion") removable, essential etc., giving a nice report for each app (seconds needed for the app to be loaded, users opinion about how the app should be setted, database description).

It doesn't recognize our Nexus.exe, as far as I understood it confuses it with this :)

no i'm not talking about soluto. i'm referring to the boot logger or whatever it's called in windows itself. i'll have to install soluto again to see if nexus isn't listed. if it isn't i'll send them a email with a link to the winstep download page. then maybe they can update their database.

Nexus.exe is listed, but they believe is something else, something very bad!

@ Jorge
Please let me know something about my translations. The feeling is a bit you're pretending not to notice...

Did not load driver \SystemRoot\System32\drivers\vga.sys
Did not load driver \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\NDProxy.SYS
Did not load driver \SystemRoot\System32\DRIVERS\srv.sys

click

since I'm a happy owner of a SSD my bios is setted on ACHI, btw I don't have any sort of delay on boot.

I've no system problem, just have to spot what conflicts with the dock :)

from the above jorge might of been spot on, just may be video related, if you like lets try a couple of things. go into the prefs of both nextstart and workshelf and backup you settings, reset both to default, restart. if that doesn't work try uninstalling winstep, restart, and reinstall. if either of these don't work i'm fresh out of ideas.

As I said in the first post and later, I already done all this... but tnx for your tries ;)

I've restored an Acronis backup at early stage, and the dock still keeps not showing up, so may be indeed a video issue with my old vga vs Windows 7.

As I posted before, ATI just abandoned drivers development for my kind of vga, so if the problem is there I guess there's nothing I can do other than trying different drivers... but I'm fine with the workaround.
