Jorge, sometimes I come across a PNG file or other type that will change the icon on the dock if I drag it there while trying to move it. It will automatically change the icon to whatever the PNG file is.

I forgot what to press to prevent that from happening.

Right-click and "Lock icons", even though I'm not sure if that locking extends to icons as well...

i believe locking icons is to stop accidental dragging off the dock only.

The icon of an item on the dock can be changed by simply dragging and dropping an .ICO, .PNG or .TIF file into the item itself. This is by design and it's a great feature.

You just have to be careful not to drop the .PNG item dead center on another item's icon when moving it. Why are you storing .PNG files on the dock, anyway? ;-)

I agree wholeheartedly, but I could have sworn there was a key combo that when pressed overrides that feature to allow dragging and dropping those files into a folder on the dock without changing the icon.

Skagon, it did prevent the PNG file from changing the icon. :D If the key combo feature I mentioned above doesn't come to light, I'll just have to change it to Lock icons from now on when I want to drag and drop one of those files.

I wasn't storing it on the dock. :) I was dragging and dropping it into a folder on the dock.

I have to note here that this is the typical "problem" with directories. Nexus and Winstep weren't meant to be replacements for Explorer (or any other file manager). The "folder tab" in the shelf was, I believe, meant to be a quick way to access files, *not* to conduct file management.
That's the main source of problems, but as always, users dictate how features are used...

actually dragging something to a folder on the shelf works just fine, rather you rightclick and drag to get the options for copyto and moveto or you just leftclick and drag to move the item into the fold by dropping it on the folder. what doesn't work is rightclicking on a folder on the shelf and selecting copyto or moveto. i've misplaced more than a few files that way once the copy or move process crashes.

Jorge, am I confusing the key press feature with another action? I thought there was a key press to allow dragging a PNG, ico and other related file types to drag and drop it in a folder on the dock without changing the icon.

I've been meaning to ask about this for a long time but thought I might remember how to do on my own but realized, it ain't happening.

i just tested this with nexus and have to say what i stupid idea, when i want a folder icon changed i'll manually change it. rightckicking and dragging is for copying or moving through a popup menu. leftclicking and dragging is for regular copying or moving without further user input. i never noticed before cause i don't use nexus for folder operations.

now there i a plus side the above behavior is from dragging off the destop tab of worksfelf to a folder on nexus with nexus icons unlocked. i turned around and locked the icons again, dragged the same from the desktop tab on workshelf to the same folder on nexus and this time it actually copied into the folder and it did not change the icon.
