I've been trying to solve an issue that's been bugging me for quite a while, and I'm not even sure that it's possible, thus the reason for this post.

When I have my browser open and activate a dock, the focus goes to the dock. Once it hides itself again I would like the browser window to be given back the focus. Objectdock does this and I therefore am assuming that Nexus will also (I know, I know, don't ever assume... :) ) but have been unable to find a setting that will allow this to happen. I know it's not a big deal to just click on the window or title bar again to bring it to the forefront but as I get older I'm getting more and more lazy. ;) Plus, as I said, Objectdock is able to do this and I'm really hoping that I can with Nexus as I like Nexus better overall. So can anyone help out this poor miserable sod? Thanks!

EDIT: Forgot to say that I'm running Nexus Ultimate 12.2.

Nexus already does that. Open the Properties panel for any dock -> Behavior tab -> Advanced Button -> read what it says next to the 'Pop up dock on mouse over' check box.

Thanks for your quick reply, Jorge. I had read that and have it checked but it doesn't work for me so I thought there must be some other combo that I was missing that was messing things up. Not sure why it doesn't work, maybe the version I have? I know it's an older one but it has never worked that way for me. :?

Try this: open a non maximized window partially covering the dock and make sure that window has the focus. Now mouseover the visible part of the dock and let the mouse pointer linger over it for a while.

Here is what should happen: the dock automatically comes forward with no need for you to click on it. Now, still without clicking, move the mouse away from the dock. Focus should return to the windows that was partially covering the dock.

Done, but the same problem remains, focus never returns the the original window that had it before the dock takes it away. I have Nexus Ultimate on two different computers (Win 7 Home Premium and Win 7 Pro, both 64bit) and it's the same for both of them.

even though jorge asked you not to click the dock did you click on it before mousing back to the open program? i tested here when i saw your post earlier and i just tested again and it's working as described here.

Thanks for the reply. Of course I didn't. I follow directions quite well and tried it on both of my computers that I have Nexus Ultimate on and it won't work on either of them for me. Glad it works for you but it doesn't for me and that's why I've come back on here for help as I've tried everything I can think of. I've tried other windows other than my browser and it's all the same. I've just plain run out of ideas...

Avatar, there is a little application I wrote called 'Foreground Tester' which allows you to see which application has the focus at a given time. This is great to see what, if anything, is 'stealing' the focus at a given time.

You can download it from HERE. Just unzip and run the executable, then try doing what I described above again with it running. Let me know the results.

Thanks, Jorge, I will download it shortly and try it out to see what may be up here. One thing that has been really making me scratch my head wondering what's going on is that Objectdock still works without any issues at all. I hate comparing different software this way as they are obviously programmed differently but with this particular feature one program works and the other doesn't so if some other program was stealing the focus wouldn't that also affect Objectdock? Anyway, I'll try out your program and report back once finished. Thanks again for tying to help me get this sorted.

Okay, I just tried it and from what I can see nothing is "stealing" the focus:

I clicked on the foreground window tester to see the results, thus the last entry, as I had my web browser having the focus for this test.

Hmmm... maybe an unexpected combination of settings is preventing the dock from giving focus back to Firefox?

Can you please post a screenshot of the Dock Properties -> Behavior -> Advanced dialog?

your settings are fine. mine are set exactly the same. maybe something to do with your mouse settings? i had a drive update a little while back that messed up how i use my mouse functions. the next update fixed that bug.

Well, it's not going to help, but it ain't those settings... Tried it here and focus is still going back to the previously active window after moving the pointer off the dock.
