Hi,

i've just discovered the Nexus dock bar and I really like it so far. It delivers a nice context menu for dock items which is missing in my currently used dock application. But there are two major problems for me that prevent me from getting the right visual appearance and finally to switch to Nexus as my main dock application with multiple docks:

  1. There is a settings option for the icon-icon distance but it seems like it's not working correctly. When I set it to 1px, the horizontal distance between two icons is 2px instead. I just can't get it to use 1px as distance. (The used icon images don't have any borders.) I would also really like to have the option to disable the distance at all, respectively set is to 0px. So, is there any posibility to reduce the icon-icon distance below 2px?

  2. I think the distance between icons and labels (text) is way too far. As you can see in my example image there is a 22px distance where it shoudn't need that much. As there is no setting for this icon-label distance: Is there nevertheless any workaround or something to change this distance?

Thank you very much for any help!

Have you tried using Animated Icons? You might like that better than what you're currently using. If you're using the free version of Nexus, I don't know if Animated Icons will work.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend using Winstep Xtreme. There is a free trial. It offers a myriad of features that might eliminate your need to squeeze your icons so closely together.

Winstep Xtreme offers the ability to use multiple docks. See the videos below. The second link is a continuation of the first. I suggest you watch both. They aren't that long.

Hi Windy, thanks for your answer but unfortunately it doesn't provide any real solution for my needs. :(

The animated icons are absolutely not what I want, because I definitively want to keep the metro ones. I'm already using a simple dockbar as application menu since years and a lot of small metro icons are strung together at the bottom of my display. No mouse-over animation, no further fancy stuff - just clean and simple.

The only thing why I took a look at the Winstep Nexus dockbar is the context menĂ¼ for elements in the dock. I really like the possibility to "right-click -> run as admin" and so on. I also like the systray option and could think about buying the ultimate version to have the systray in a separate dock with a smaller icon size. But if the dockbar itself can't match my visual perceptions for an application launcher, it won't satisfy me at all.

Aren't there any workarounds for my needs? As I said, I've already setted the icon-icon distance to 1px but it uses 2px anyway. So this one looks like a small bug. (1px distance would be enough if 0px isn't possible.)

The icon-label distance is not that important as the icon-icon distance. Nevertheless I experience the default distance as way too far and I'm sure it would be a nice and useful feature for a lot of people to modify it. If I use the Nexus dockbar for example now during this posting and the icons appear above this textbox, the label is separated by nearly two lines. It's just not beauty or a position I would expect for the icon label. (See example image.)

Hmmm, is there at least any way to edit the distances with an own theme or something?

Cheers,
vlamu

Actually, it's most probable that the theme that you're using has some kind of padding or margin, which is different from the user-configurable icon spacing.
You might want to check the theme's settings -- which might be a not-so-easy task, considering that there's still no "theme creator/editor" application, so you'll have to go through the theme's files and options manually, in order to find what you're looking for.

Hey skagon!

I checked every theme (by activation, not the source) but none of them got the icon-icon distance below 2px or reduced the icon-label distance. I've also checked the source code of some themes but couldn't identify corresponding settings. (Is there any documentary or something similar?) It would be nice if I could adjust the icon-label distance by themes.

For the icon-icon distance I don't think it's theme related. The problem seems to be that this option just isn't working as it should: The setting value isn't the distance between icons but rather the left and right margin from every single icon. That's why when setting the distance between icons to 1px, the real distance will actually result in 2px. So right now we have just these options for the icon-icon distance: 2px, 4px, 6px, 8px, 10px, ..... It would be really nice if there would be 1px steps.

Cheers

I'm afraid I don't remember if there's some kind of setting or not. It's been a while since I last played with themes and, quite frankly, I can't be bothered to start experimenting right now.
I'm sure Jorge will see this sooner or later and give you a definite answer.
There is documentation on themes but it is rather dated. Still, it could give you some insight, but I don't know if it will be of any help. It's from an older version of Winstep, but the theme files haven't changed much (if at all) since then.
Theme guide

Enjoy!

Meanwhile I checked the theme guide but couldn't find anything that looks appropriate for my concern.

Hmm,seems that I have to wait for Jorge. :( But thanks for your help anyway!

Cheers
