Jorge, in case you forgot, I use the Windows taskbar because I use Stoic Joker's T-Clock 2010 that replaces the Windows clock and it can't be used with the Winstep taskbar.

After the thread about the Winstep taskbar, and the fact you had a recent update, I decided to try to keep the Winstep tasbkbar on top of the Windows one but it wouldn't stay. I ticked "Allow NextStart to replace the Windows taskbar" and also "Keep the Windows taskbar visible".

I then clicked on Taskbar Settings and ticked "Always keep above other windows" and also ticked "Lock the taskbar and prevent it from being dragged".

The problem arises when I click on the Windows taskbar, click on for example this page or watch a video. If I click anywhere or anything on the Windows system tray, a page, or click the Windows taskbar, it goes underneath the Windows taskbar. If I watch a video, it won't hide until I repeatedly minimize and enlarge the player. But, it doesn't hide and stay on top of the Windows taskbar, it again goes underneath it. The only way to bring the Winstep taskbar back on top again is to untick one of the settings > Apply, then do it all over again.

Also, is there a way to prevent the system tray icons from showing on my desktop while staying on the Winstep taskbar if I choose to do so?

1. Are you using the latest beta of v15.9? You can find it in the Beta section of this forums.

2. Also, can you please post a couple of pictures so I can better visualize the problem?

3. Do you have 'Prevent maximized windows from overlapping the taskbar' enabled?

4. Not sure I understood correctly your last question regarding the system tray?

As you can see, the Winstep taskbar is underneath the Windows one.

Are you able to reproduce the issue if you enable the settings and procedures I used?

Where is 'Prevent maximized windows from overlapping the taskbar' located? I can't find it. I've been enabling all of the settings via NextStart > Taskbar tab. I also checked the settings via WorkShelf and the Control icon on the dock.

As far as removing the system tray icons from the desktop, I found the solution. 'Detach the system tray from the NextStart taskbar' was ticked. I unticked it and the icons no longer show.

NextSTART Preferences -> Taskbar tab -> Taskbar Settings button -> bottom left side of the 'Position' section in that dialog, right before 'Full Screen Width'.

'Prevent maximized windows from overlapping the taskbar' needs to be checked.

What version of Winstep Xtreme are you running?

I now know why I didn't see it. 'Prevent maximized windows from overlapping the taskbar' is grayed-out, but is enabled so something else must be causing the issue.

WorkShelf version 15.07.1050

Nextcontrols 1.00.0151

Region 1.00.0001

wsZip 1.01.0000

wsUnzip 1.01.0000

Grayed out? That means the taskbar is not docked.

You can't keep the NextSTART taskbar always on top of the Windows taskbar, because both will be fighting for 'always on top' status - and only one can have it.

If you dock the taskbar, it will reserve screen space for itself and it will respect the space reserved by the Windows taskbar, i.e.; it will appear right above it.

TL;DR, Two bodies cannot occupy the same space. ;)

Oh rats! I did try docking it after you told me where 'Prevent maximized windows from overlapping the taskbar' is and saw that it went right above the Windows one so I left it undocked.

I was hoping that if you didn't presently have the feature available to make the Winstep/NextSTART taskbar stay on top of the Windows one, you would be able to add that feature.

That would be really cool if that were possible, but alas, I guess you can't get blood from a turnip. :(
