for some reason nexus crashes some times, and the edge bump will do nothing at all, i tried killing the:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Winstep\WsxService.exe
process and starting again but nothing, is there any way to restart it manually?

also does Start8 program conflict with winstep nexus perhaps?

Leave that process alone, that is a Windows Service, not a normal application! Killing it then restarting it by double clicking the executable is not the same.

Start8 should not conflict with Nexus.

As for the crashes, can you try being a bit more descriptive, please? Actually, a LOT more descriptive. :)

When do the crashes happen? What are you doing when they happen? Are they random or can you deliberately make Nexus crash by following certain steps? Is there anything that is common to all those crashes (a pattern)? Is there an error message? Etc...

im not actually sure if its a crash, freeze, or anything else, im in the process of adding all my shortcuts to the dock, and as far as i remember its only SOMETIMES when i drag a shortcut into a subdock

when this happens the dock disappears, ctrl + f11 doesnt bring up preferences anymore, and the only way to bring it back up is to reboot the pc, unless theres a task i can kill and relaunch?

If you are now running Winstep Xtreme, the process to kill and then restart would be workshelf.exe.

However, I would be very careful doing this. For performance reasons, WorkShelf/Nexus uses a delayed saving method when making changes, so if you kill the process you might lose any changes you've made to the docks recently.

Since there is no error message, that doesn't look like a crash, but more of a freeze. No idea what could be causing it at this point and it could be something specific to your system, so try to figure out a pattern/some reliabçe way to reproduce it.

Is the dock set to auto-hide?

Exactly what happens? The dock is visible, does it get to make room for the new item? Does it simply disappear then? What mouse over effect(s) are you using?

Every little bit of information is important for me to try and figure out what might be happening there.

Also, next time it happens (and you might as well do that now to make sure you are running Winstep Xtreme and not Nexus or Nexus Ultimate, for instance), open the Windows Task Manager and look for the workshelf.exe process in the Processes tab (Windows 7) or in the Details tab (Windows 8/10). How much CPU is that process using when the dock freezes/disappears? Is the process even there?

auto hide is on after 1 second,

mouse over effect is turned off

but i have the animation for the sub docks to slide, maybe its that

it happened only 3 times now so i am posting a bit early, but i didnt want to know how to reboot the program, so thanks for letting me know that its
C:\Program Files (x86)\Winstep\WorkShelf.exe

ill gather more info on the next occurance

thanks for being very helpful again

I had a similar problem. I'm not sure if this is the reason you're having this problem, but try this.

Go to the very right bottom corner next to your system tray clock. Right-click on it and make sure that Peek at desktop IS NOT checked. If it is, uncheck it.

To this day, I can't figure out how mine became checked but it caused serious problems with using Xtreme, in particular, my bump feature. After unchecking it, the problems I had went away.

All those little details are important. For instance, does it look like this happens because the dock suddenly decides to auto-hide just as you are dropping the new item into it (shouldn't happen)? Did the freezes only occur when dropping new items into sub-docks? Did you see the dock shifting icons to make room for the new item or did the freeze happen before this? Etc...

ok it happened again, i was dragging a folder from windows explorer:
C:\Users\Tom\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\byh4kbg0.default-1422736261203

to a sub dock

it crashed, then i terminated
C:\Program Files (x86)\Winstep\WorkShelf.exe
with task manager, and relaunched it, but at relaunch the workshelf was unusable and it was just seethrough, unclickable

Ok, open WorkShelf Preferences, go to the Advanced tab, click the Backup button, give it a meaningful name and then send me the file to the Winstep support address.

I want to see if I can reproduce the issue here.

So far it seems to happen only when adding items to sub-docks, right?

Something else besides the above, while it is still fresh in your memory: exactly (step by step) how did you try to add that folder shortcut to the sub-dock? You started by dragging the folder from an Explorer window (?) then...

heres a screenshot of the same problem but with an error code coming up:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/lcncsftxrl2y3 ... 9.png?dl=0

i turned the slide animation off now to see if it was that, i dont think i had anymore crashes since then

but still i wonder why do the animation cause the workshelf to freak out, i remember when i had the mouseover - magnify, effect it was even worst, when i bump the edge it would jump up down up down and wouldnt appear at all, so i disabled all these animations until all the shortcuts are added

and yes, left click and drag a folder from windows explorer, whilst still holding left click, bump bottom of screen edge to make the dock appear, hover over the subdock i created to reveal the subdock contents, drag the folder into the rest of the list, release click, = crash

once again, didnt crash all the time, and errors only occur when slide animation for subdocks, and/or rollover magnify animations are on

just going to back up now and send you over email

on a side note, when this crash occurs, killing then running
C:\Program Files (x86)\Winstep\WorkShelf.exe
works great, perhaps do you know how to make a quick .bat file so when i run it it restarts the process?

heres a windows explorer restart .bat file that works:

@echo off
taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
start explorer.exe

i couldnt get the workshelf restart to work as im not a programmer and dont know coding but i tried:

@echo off
taskkill /f /im WorkShelf.exe
start C:\Program_Files_(x86)\Winstep\WorkShelf.exe

Ok, an Access Violation error instead of a freeze is already something I can work with (i.e.; already gives me a pointer as to what could be wrong).

But I still need more clues. Did those errors ONLY occur when you RELEASED the left mouse button and NEVER while simply hovering the dock?

Also, on that screenshot you sent me, the icon you were dragging when WorkShelf crashed does not seem to be over any of the sub-docks, but instead above a folder shortcut in the main dock. Can you please clarify?

Also, your description of what happened when you had the magnify effect enabled is not very clear to me either. What jumped up and down?

Also, once again regarding that screenshot, do you still remember if the crash happened when you released that folder into the dock or while you were hovering the dock? Because the insertion point seems to be at the far end of the dock (after the notepad icon).

So far I haven't been able to reproduce the issue here using your backup, even after re-enabling the slide animation.

that screenshot insertion point was a different crash to the previous crashes, it crashed after i hover over a subdock then drag and release into the rollout area

i filmed the dock sliding up and down from the edge when i had magnify and slide animations on, so ill just upload those videos now and you can diagnose if you like

keep in mind, my computer isnt exactly heavily modified but it just has a lot of programs installed, around 100, but programs that MAY have a problem communicating are:

divx codec
k lite codec pack
madvr
media player classic
media preview
camera codec pack
quick time
vlc media player

Did you upload the videos already?

The ideal thing for me would be a video of WorkShelf crashing.
