OK, now here's a weird one. Attached are two screen shots. One shows a portion of the Dock Properties dialog that shows how a third party skin should look after installation; it is correctly oriented to the icons. The second screen shot shows the skin actually installed...upside down! I tried several of the skins supplied with WinStep and most but not all installed upside down as well. Exceptions are Dark Tech, Light Tech and the K-TEK4D skins; they installed correctly.


Any idea what might be going on here

Docks have four screen orientations, horizontal-top, horizontal-bottom, vertical-left and vertical-right.

Nexus will properly rotate/flip dock background images as appropriate for the current orientation. Normally dock backgrounds are made by default for horizontal-bottom oriented docks (so the icons magnify up).

As you've probably noticed with rectangular dock backgrounds, when a dock is attached to the top of the screen the icons magnify downwards (otherwise they would go off the screen). Likewise, docks at the bottom of the screen magnify upwards.

For a pseudo 3D dock background such as the one in your pictures, if the dock background was not automatically flipped it would look as if the icons were magnifying towards and past the bottom of the background, which would look wrong.

Anyway, there is an alternative which forces Nexus to render horizontal-top docks the same as horizontal-bottom docks: open the dock properties panel, go to the Appearance tab and select 'Do not flip background for docks at the top of the screen'.

As for why this doesn't happen with themes such as Darktech, etc, it's because Nexus allows theme authors to specify different bitmaps/settings for each of the four orientations.

P.S. Try using JPG compressed screenshots in the future. Those PNG files are too heavy.
