Dragging a file over a dock icon causes it to flash/pulse. Happens even with all launch and hover effects off and happens regardless of theme or icon type. How to turn off this drag-over flashing effect?

Link to the video so You can see it clearly - https://files.fm/f/c8ke79px6c

Thanks for the video.

There is no way to turn that off - it is an important visual clue that

1. The .iCO, .PNG or .TIF image being dragged over the shortcut will replace that shortcut's icon (i.e. that is actually the quickest way to change the icon of a shortcut in the dock).

OR

2. The target shortcut in the dock will be launched with the file being dragged over it as an argument rather than the file being added as a shortcut to the dock (e.g. dropping a .txt file over a shortcut to Notepad will open that .txt file in Notepad)

This "quality of life" feature was added back in 2016 (i.e. nearly 10 years ago) and this is the first time I get a request to turn it off.

Must be that kind of week, as I also just got a request my email to turn off the little "number of running instances" number that appears over a tasklist icon when more than one instance of that application is running (Windows does not provide an actual number for its icons in the taskbar but rather an 'overlapping documents' image, but either way, there must be a visual cue that that icon represents more than one instance of the same application running).

If the icons are blocked, what other additions can we talk about? (sorry, but you contradict yourself) I would understand you if this indicator (blinking) worked when the icons are not blocked (that is, it would be possible to add an icon).

And also: if you noticed in the video, then this effect is completely broken - if a file from the desktop or from a folder is moved over the dock (but not to the dock, but, for example, to another window), then this effect works and breaks (in different ways), making the icon lighter. It looks terrible...

Thanks. Fixed for next release - this would not happen on icons with the magnify effect on, which is why I never caught it.

Your bug report above forced me to have a deeper look at this old code. So, several reasons:

1. Consistency.

2. Not every icon will flash when you drag over it, ONLY those that would accept a document/file as an argument (e.g. executable files OR folders, where the file would be copied or moved to the actual folder, since Winstep application support true drag & drop).

3. The rate/speed of flashing is different if you are dragging an ICO, PNG or TIF file over the shortcut (which would change/customize the image of that shortcut rather than launching the file with the target application), thus allowing you to distinguishing between the two actions.

And since you played the "contradiction" card, now it's my turn lol: if the dock is locked, why drag icons over it? :P

Are you serious? And who was talking about icons, and who was even talking about dragging to the dock? :) And what I show in the video - it was just an example so that you understand what I'm talking about... ;)

I repeat once again: if you drag a file to another window (it doesn't matter which one), then in most cases you have to drag it through the dock to get to, for example, the taskbar, and there (at the top of the taskbar), as you can see, the dock is located. Or, as you suggest, make a loop every time so as not to touch the dock? :P

AHAHAHA! I just had to laugh imagining users having to do that lol... :D

Anyway, now the "flashing" bug is fixed so it should no longer be a problem in the next release (which is pretty close)...

Only because of the presence of this effect of manganese - I had to switch to an older version, where this effect is not present :(

Considering that was added in v16.2, that's a metric ton of features and new functionality you giving up on just because you don't like that effect.

I understand, but this effect is so disgusting that I am ready to use the version (15.9.1012) almost 10 years ago. If the update gives the ability to disable (in the settings) this effect - it will be great, if not - well... sorry...
