It appears to me that WinStep Xtreme and Explorer Patcher are not compatible with each other. That is why I have for a test uninstalled Explorer Patcher.

The attached image 01.png () shows the Windows 11 taskbar icon fly out menu. With Windows 11 24H2, it has become even more useless than before. Some icons are not displayed there at all. And some functions do not work. For example, if I minimise Teams by clicking on the close (X) symbol on its menu, the program gets minimised but is not displayed at all in the fly-out menu. I had to restart Teams a couple of times, and now I am using the minimise dot that is provided by 4T minimiser. That at least works.

Any icon (minimised program) in the Windows 11 fly-out cannot be dragged into WinStep Xtreme. Unfortunately, the video I created cannot be attached here.

Unfortunately, this means that for the time being, I have to deactivate WinStep Xtreme and re-install Explorer Patcher again. I was hoping things would work better, but it looks like MS did their own things again.

Please have a look at this issue.

I have moved your post from the "What's new..." into this topic since the subject in question is the same: Explorer Patcher.

If you go back a couple of posts in this topic you should notice that another user also running Explorer Patcher had his issue resolved (for him it was the Winstep application only displaying the "clone" tray icons and not the real tray icons).

Looking at the cropped attachment you provided that seems to not have been the case for you as those tray icons in the NextSTART taskbar are clearly the "clone" icons (unless the screenshot is old).

Since the Winstep tray is displaying the clone icons and not the actual tray icons, minimizing Teams to the tray is not going to show it as the "clone icons" only display the 3 system icons. No idea why the user justposted had this issue fixed but you apparently not.

Since I do not run Explorer Patcher and have no intention of installing it here, I'm going to let the other op also running Explorer Patcher (justposted) chime in. Perhaps he can be of assistance.

As for dragging tray icons out from the tray overflow/expansion window I did not even know that was possible, Anyway, that is a function that is specific to the Windows taskbar and is obviously NOT going to work with/is not supported by the Winstep system tray.

The normal (old?) way is via Windows Settings -> Personalization -> Taskbar > Other System Tray Icons. There you can select which icons appear in the tray fly out and which icons appear in the always visible portion of the tray. This method, unlike the drag & drop method, also works with the Winstep application.

But first you must figure out why the Winstep application is showing the normal tray icons when using Explorer Patcher for justposted but not for you.

Needed to bump this thread because I was in the same boat and I'm now in a situation where I have to upgrade my Win11 build to the latest but I'm double checking if this issue was solved with the latest nexus ultimate update released a couple days ago? Last time I updated to 24h2, nothing worked in the system tray. I use it as a dock with large custom icons just like the regular dock and it's essential I have it functional.

You will never again have access to the full set of original tray icons like in Windows 10 or in the old versions of Windows 11 unless you also run something like Explorer Patcher (and even that I cannot guarantee because I do not make the latter).

Microsoft made sure of this when they deliberately removed the old structure that was for a short while still accessible beneath the new XAML tray icons.

If you are not running Explorer Patcher, you only get the three clone - but fully functional - system tray icons: battery, net and volume. You then need to click the tray expansion arrow to have access to the remainder of the tray icons (and you can control which icons appear there via Windows itself).

I appreciate the quick reply. I do have explorerpatcher installed but that didn't seem to help either. I'll make do on the older win11 for now, thanks.

I don't know why it worked for "justposted" also using Explorer Patcher but not for you. The Winstep application first tries to access the old tray icon structure, and only if that structure does not exist does it use the clone tray icons.

Perhaps the new versions of Explorer Patcher are no longer exposing the old structure?

It would be nice if Justposted saw this and chimed in.
