So the new Sticky Notes on Windows is an interesting beast... It presents itself as a separate modern app with its own taskbar icon and such, but it is now actually a side process from Microsoft OneNote.

I honestly prefer the old standalone Sticky Notes of Windows 10 and have been trying to keep it running, but Microsoft seems hellbent on making it break more and more often with every update. I now want to set up a shortcut to this new Sticky Notes, but I'm not sure where I should start. Any help is appreciated.

Hmmm... I just tried Sticky Notes here by clicking on it in the "Apps" tab of the default shelf (a special tab type that holds all UWP apps installed on your system). It updated itself, then opened normally (or at least I think it did, I don't use it, so I wouldn't really know).

Anyway, I then tried the Windows Start Menu -> All Apps and looked for Sticky Notes there. Found two versions, Sticky Notes and Sticky Notes (New). Dragged the new Sticky Notes from the Start Menu to the dock and the dock created a shortcut to it, no problem. Run the shortcut and it asked me to sign in to MS, which I declined, then it added a OneNote icon to my system tray which I had to exit, etc...

What a mess. But that is MS for you these days.

Thanks! I have successfully replicated the steps (completely forgot the ability to drag-n-drop from Explorer). The tray icon can be disable, thankfully - too many programs want to have a tray icon these days.
