O venerable developers,

Please undertake to disencumber my poor system of the incessant molestations of Nexus's audio polling, which I think might be the culprit for some realtime audio stutters I've had... I have scoured the obscure menus of the interface and all the registry values to disable audio features in every form conceivable, but Nexus persists in victimizing my machine. Even deleting WsxService.exe didn't make the problem go away—Nexus.exe itself then picked up the slack in the campaign of abuse. I do not want any explosion sounds or fish noises! I just want for my audio subsystem to be left alone:

Many thanks for your help
I shall upload logs etc. if necessary (if I can be directed as to how to do so)

Why would Nexus briefly querying the name of an executable file ONCE per SECOND be a problem (and normally there is a lot more activity than just that)?!

And why would you delete WsxService.exe not knowing what it does when you could simply temporarily stop it via services.msc or even the Windows Task Manager? Do you know what happens when that service is no longer available?

Anyway, moving on:

Are you showing the system tray in your dock? If so, disable it and see if that makes those queries go away.

If not, are you showing running applications in the dock? Disable that too and see if that makes those queries go away.

If not, try disabling "Show indicator on shortcuts to applications that are currently running" in the Content tab of Preferences, then please report back.

And please re-install Nexus on top of your current installation to restore WsxService.exe. Without the service running Nexus will not be able to do any of the operations that require elevated privileges (such as installing theme fonts, etc).

P:S. Want to know the culprit of your audio stutters (and it's not Nexus for sure) ? Download and install a program called LatencyMon.

I concede that I am inclined to take your word for it if you say Nexus is not responsible, as I know quite little about these things and am merely desperate to find an object of blame for the popping noises I've been hearing.
I yesterday was of the mistaken belief that the audio subsystem needed to access its own exe files continuously in order to function, so I thought that the polling might be causing repeated mutexes, though I have since educated myself about the wonders of how computers work! Since audio by ASIO leaves little margin for error, and the pop I kept hearing was brief and recurring on the order of seconds, the behaviour by Nexus looked suspect to my untrained eye; thanks for the software recommendation—I shall probably need it.
In any case, the buffer overflows and the annoying audio problem both have gone away today (presumably by coincidence), and your suggestion of disabling the running application indicator did indeed stop the polling altogether (is that intended/necessary behaviour, out of curiosity?). I undeleted wsxservice after I took the screenshot yesterday and Nexus apparently went back to normal when I restarted my machine.
Thanks again

I'm very careful not to waste resources, so Nexus only does something if it is actually necessary. For instance, currently running processes must be monitored so Nexus knows, among other things, which shortcuts in the dock should get a running indicator and which should not.

Make sure the service is actually running: Preferences -> Advanced tab -> Troubleshooting Options -> Check Service Communication
