Why? Name one practical advantage this would provide.

First, it is not currently possible because of the limitations of the programming language used to develop Winstep software. Second, Winstep does not need the larger address space offered by a 64-bit application.

It would not make the software faster or provide any new features. It would simply increase its size and memory usage, since pointers, handles and other pointer-sized values would grow from 4 bytes to 8 bytes, effectively doubling in size.

So, in practical terms, the only thing you would gain is bloat.

Newer isn't always better, grasshopper... :D

Honestly, since you put it out there, there is only one benefit of 64bit Obi-Wan that I can think of.

The ability to use a LOT more RAM. That is the main advantage I can think of which is not being limited and if a person has more than 32GB RAM, 64bit can use all of it, 32bit cannot. The potential for greater stability if a user operates an intensive memory hungry app with Winstep of there being no problems is much higher.

Not even WorkShelf with all its docks, shelves, grid stacks, and modules gets ANYWHERE NEAR the 2 GB user-space limit for 32 bit applications. And it it ever did, then something would be seriously wrong, like a huge memory leak of some kind.

So, Winstep does not need to be able to access more RAM than it currently does, and being able to access more RAM would do nothing for stability either.

OK I hear that and you are totally correct...BUT...

Not a lot of people use 3dS, Autocad, DaVinci Resolve, Cubase, ProTools and other apps that require a substantial amount of RAM above 32GB, but truthfully, I do not run the hungry apps on my theme creation computer, because it only has 32GB. I use the theme creating computer for across-the-board testing for themes. There is no way I would run the mentioned apps above on my 32GB computer with Winstep.

Jorge - it is not your app that is the problem, I learned very early on, that some of those apps do not mention that they also require a decent proportion of GPU power as well. If you think about it, to have multiple editing windows for graphic, audio and video files, the amount of resources needed to edit them are VERY high.

I did not mention that for any reason other than other apps are more likely to cause a problem with Winstep than Winstep causing a problem:)

Yes, and for memory hungry multimedia applications like those, being 64 bit makes total sense. For an application like Winstep, it doesn't - it would only use more memory with no practical advantage.

I get that. Honestly, so far running Cubase, ProTools and 3DS on my main ciomputer with plenty of RAM, Winstep does not bat an eyelid and runs smoothly. Forgive me for not wanting to use them on my 32Gb computer. I am being safe rather than sorry, even though it may well be fine if I did. windows blue screens are my least favorite error and a lot of the time, they seem to have been GPU related. It's been a long time since I had one and I choose not to tempt fate. :D

If the need ever presents itself for you to change it. I am confident you'll be onto it.

Why is a Windows environment and 32-bit always enough?
On Linux, nobody says 32-bit is enough for a program—everything is 64-bit, even if it's a 1MB program that just does some calculations.

That bothers me

I was already using Windows XP 64-bit and stayed with 64-bit all the way through Windows 11.
And for any software that was already 64-bit, I took it and replaced it if something wasn't working

Because for many things it is more than enough. Or do you always use a sledge-hammer to crack a nut?

Linux is not Windows, and a tiny 1 MB C++ console app is not a Win32 shell application with hundreds of thousands of lines of code.

Switching a trivial Linux program to 64‑bit is literally changing a compiler flag. Migrating a deeply integrated Win32 application with decades of 32‑bit assumptions is a completely different category of work - and the programming language Winstep applications are written on cannot produce 64‑bit binaries anyway, so that alone ends the discussion here. :P

Are you suggesting that I should spend the next couple of years re-writing Winstep from scratch (FYI, many years ago Netscape tried a full rewrite of Navigator and it destroyed the company, go read about it.) with no revenue and no updates for absolutely no other reason than BECAUSE IT BOTHERS YOU? :D

Pray tell, what would a 64 bit version of the Winstep application do that it cannot already do, or is not already doing?

New isn’t automatically better. Windows itself proves that - WinUI, UWP, Acrylic, and all the architectural churn did nothing but bloat the OS and slow it down to a crawl. Windows 7 is still to this day considered by many (yours included) the pinnacle of Windows - fast, clean, visually coherent, and free from the architectural bloat that started with Windows 8.

Like you I see no point in continuing this discussion what you have said makes perfect sense. But also keep in mind how many years it took them to fix the leftover crap from WINNT4 to get to Win7. I remember some guy posting a screenshot of some of the code, 4 million lines of code in WINNT?? WTF??. New isn't always better unless the old has major problems and the new actually fixes those problems.. Windows has a history of service pack fixes e.g...DOS 6 will be fixed in DOS6.1, Will be fixed in DOS 6.11, will be fixed in DOS 6.12, will be fixed in DOS 6.2, will be fixed in DOS 6.22... sheesh...

Digital date display Module, that you can slide onto the analog watch. 8)

Yeah, I know there's a digital display in the Office design, but the design isn't very nice. ^^
Or you could use KTEK 4D Desigen to add a digital date display to the analog clock ;-)

It is actually there, it is a font rather than an application design. It would be a matter of the skinner using a pertinent font and ensuring they include it in the skin they upload, because it is possible not everyone would have that font. Also ensure they make the skin focused around being digital. It can be applied to only the date or like below the time and date - either/and/or - The slide factor - no, that would be an animation thing.

e.g. done quickly using a Digital 7 Mono font

oki ;-)

I just did it that way.
I used the “Digital Desktop Clock for Windows” tool from softwareok.com to display the date. But of course, I'd prefer to have everything in one place with Winstep ;-)
