Very strange, I cannot reproduce it here. If I increase or decrease the volume while the mouse over icon label is on screen, the label updates to show the new volume.

Even tried creating a dock specific to the tray.

What about the icon itself, does it update if you mute the volume?

And if you restart the application?

If I go into Nexus settings/preferences, then exit the settings, it WILL update. Same if I restart Nexus. Hmmm...maybe something is just corrupt on my machine. Ugh. Now...if I add the system tray to my MAIN dock, everything works fine. The issue is only with a system tray specific dock set to autohide.

You mean it will start updating from then on...?

Nothing corrupt on your machine. Your last sentence is a huge clue, probably *the* smoking gun.

Regarding going into Nexus Settings and/or restarting Nexus, I just meant it will update the hover labels in that one instance. Ongoing, they still fail to update when volume or battery percentage changes. Thanks for looking into this. It is a minor thing, but still wanted to report it.

Ok, hold on, you are just confusing me.

When you restart Nexus, the label is updating as you change the volume? It only stops updating after the systray dock hides and pops up again? Or am I missing something here?

Also, you never did answer my question: the label stops updating, but what about the icon? The tray volume icon is not static, it should also change as you decrease the volume and if you mute the sound it should show a red circle.

Also, when you go into settings it starts updating again: you mean WHILE you have settings open or after opening settings and closing it again? And, if the latter, at which point does the label stop updating again? After the dock auto-hides for the first time?

Sorry for being confusing!

The icons in the system tray dock update correctly. The issue is only with the hover labels.

If I access Nexus settings and then exit settings, OR restart Nexus, it forces a refresh to the hover labels, but then aftertwards, the hover labels fail to update as changes occur to volume, wifi, or battery percentage.

Jorge - I just ran my own test - the auto hide is causing the issue. If I set my system tray dock to NOT auto hide, the hover labels work as expected - updates occur real time. However, if I set it back to auto-hide, then the hover labels fail to update. Try it and you'll see what I mean - the auto hide is definitely the culprit.

Problem is I had already tried and it kept working as expected... are you sure it is a dock you are talking about and not a shelf or a drawer? Perhaps a screenshot of the actual "thing" might give me a clue.

It is a Dock, not a Shelf. See attached screenshots.
One screenshot shows volume updated to 20%.
The other shows system tray dock hover label still reflecting 30%.

I'm not sure how else to better explain this. Listen Jorge, don't sweat this. It is a minor thing. Probably something corrupt within my PC.

No, something like that can be an indication of something more serious.

Image
To be absolutely sure:

1. How are you reducing the volume?

2. If you stop hovering the volume tray icon (which makes the label disappear) and go back to it again, the wrong value remains?

3. if you press Mute instead of reducing the volume, does the icon show the red circle while the label keeps displaying the wrong value?

1. How are you reducing the volume? Using both the keyboard keys for volume up and down and the volume slider in Windows (the one in my screenshot). Makes no difference.

2. If you stop hovering the volume tray icon (which makes the label disappear) and go back to it again, the wrong value remains? Yes, wrong value remains. I've tried that.

3. if you press Mute instead of reducing the volume, does the icon show the red circle while the label keeps displaying the wrong value? OK - this is interesting. Mute works fine - both the icon AND the hover label. Additionally, it also seems to force a refresh of the volume percentage. For example, if I change the volume from 30% to 20%, the hover label will still show 30%...BUT...if I turn mute on then off, it will then show 20%. This is so strange!

And again - this is issue only persists when I set the system tray dock to auto hide. That seems to mess with the refresh of the hover labels.

Another crucial question: does the label stop updating only AFTER the dock hid itself at least once or as soon as you set it to auto-hide?

Also, what happens if you display the tray both in your auto-hide dock AND your regular always visible dock? Does that change anything?

Jorge, the issue happens after the system tray dock has been hidden for a little while. If you make adjustments to volume while the dock is visible, then YES, the hover labels update correctly. If the system tray dock is hidden, and I increase or decrease volume using the keyboard, and then activate the system tray dock, the hover labels will show the wrong volume percentage.

It seems to only happen after the dock has hid itself once. Additionally, as I am testing this more and more, I've noticed it is a sporadic issue. Sometimes, it does seem to work correctly. I don't know WTH is going on.

Displaying system tray in main dock seems to make no difference with the behavior of my system tray dock.

But again - to reiterate, the more I test this, I find that the issue is sporadic. Sometimes, everything works as expected. Other times, there seems to be a delay with the refresh of the system tray hover labels. Keeping the system tray dock active at all times does seem to remedy the issue.

This is just very strange. PLEASE don't let this make you crazy. I appreciate you trying to figure this out, but I almost wish I didn't bring it up. I'm sure you have better things to be dealing with, LOL! I'm sorry.

Jorge, please disregard my issue with the system tray dock hover labels. Sorry for wasting your time. I promise, I'm not a crazy or stupid person LOL! I'm not sure what's going on, but as of now, it seems to be OK. If I encounter anything else, will let you know.

Yeah...in fiddling around with settings, testing, etc., something must have gotten reset/fixed on my end. Who knows. Again, sorry for wasting your time. In addition to Windows 11, I have a Surface laptop, which are apparently known for being tempermental / persnickety.
