Hi all,

I'm still on the trial version of 10.9, but there are a few major problems I've noticed, that actually make me think whether I should buy this otherwise excellent interface. Here goes:

1. Subj. I've customized my only shelf to my needs, and it was working fine. until restart. now all I can see in the names of the tabs, and the only way to see the actual contents is to go into preferences and edit it.

2. Conflicts with installs/autoruns. The window is just nowhere to be found.

3. Conflicts with LOTS of games. COD,HAUX, RUSE.... any alt+tab and you can't see the game anymore - not even in the task manager. The only way is to go to processes tab and kill/restart the process - ouch.

4. Fonts blur. In a lot of programs fonts look like i've developed a double vision or had a bottle of brandy prior.

Any ideas on the above?

First of all, what Windows version are you running? 32 bit or 64 bit? Also, are you running Winstep Xtreme or Nexus Ultimate? I'll assume the former.

Anyway, let me start by saying that I have never seen anybody reporting problems such as yours.

1. What do you mean go to Preferences and edit it? A screenshot displaying the problem would probably help me understand better what you are seeing. :D

2. What window is nowhere to be found?

3. Never heard of this, and Xtreme does not interfere with applications appearing on Task Manager - or not. Are you sure you don't have the same problem when not running Xtreme?

4. Again, never heard of this, and Xtreme should not interfere in any way with how other programs display their text. Does the problem remain if you exit Xtreme? Once more, a screenshot would be useful.

Thanks,

yeah, sorry about leaving out the win details, Win7 x64, Winstep extreme 10.9

1. See the screen attached.
2. The autorun window, or a window like you see when you insert the flash disk - none of them are appearing.
3.Yes, I am sure.
4.I'll try and make the screen of this a bit later, but it is an issue.

PS: yes, when I exit winstep, everything goes back to normal.

PPS: While I was making the screen - this is what happened when I launched photoshop: (see screen 02). How??

It might help if you could show the settings for your shelf.

Thanks for the screenshots.

For the life of me, I have never seen anything like this. See that last Themes tab screenshot? In the preview area, the active Shelf tab should display a handful of icons, and in your case it's completely blank.

I would say it's something in your system interfering with Winstep Xtreme and not the other way around.

Did you download Winstep Xtreme from the Winstep web site? Are you running any other Windows customization software (even though this should not matter)?

I also noticed that at the bottom right corner of your screen it says 'Windows 7 Evaluation copy', but I can't make out the build number.

Yes, I got it from the site. I am running ultramon, but switching it off doesn't help. And the 'evaluation' is Win7 SP1 release candidate (KB976932 if it helps).

Now that's a "small" detail.

Anyone else reading this is running Xtreme with Windows 7 SP1 RC?

Also, IIRC, Ultramon has an alternate task manager, so you can have an independent taskbar on each monitor. That would probably explain the missing games when you ALT-TAB?

Ugh...

Here's a funny thing - after restarting I've killed the 'workshelf' and 'nextstart' processes and then restarted winstep - all the problems were gone fore some time, until I launched a game (Anno 1701). Then the ingame fonts blurred and the shelf got stuck again.

Sorry, but I can't seem to be able to take the screenshot of the blurred fonts. I knnow there are utils for taking in-game screens, but I don't have any.

Try using FRAPS for the in-game screenshot

Quote from Site Admin: "Are you running any other Windows customization software (even though this should not matter)?"

I just solved a problem with a customization program that was interfering with NExus.
If i were you, i would just disable everything external to Windows to see if problem goes away, if it does then you start turn everything ON, one by one to isolate the problem.

In computer world everything is possible. I once had a computer that would just not Power ON and the problem was the mouse !! go figure...

Which one and how?

Which is why there is that old joke of the 3 friends that get into a car but the car won't start. One is an electrical engineer, another a mechanical engineer, and the third an IT engineer. The electric engineer says "must be the battery", the mechanical engineer says "Nah, I think it must be something wrong with the pistons". The IT engineer looks at the other two and suggests "why don't we just get out of the car and get in again?'

Subtle, I know.

Heh, classic joke :P

Most annoying about programming: Exploring every possible situation to find a bug. A month ago I was programming Pong for a practical assignment and during testing I found a bug where the ball would either get stuck to the top side of the screen or get through it while it shouldn't. The problem was that it only happened once and I could never really emulate it again  In the end, the person who was giving the marks for the assignments also encountered it once and couldn't reproduce it  We got a near-perfect mark anyway (on a scale of 1 to 10 we had a 9,5). But it's quite annoying how it can happen once in very specific circumstances and getting those circumstances again is hard.... I feel your pain with bug-hunting :(

Playing games: Fun.
Creating and testing those: Fun.. Initially, you'll get sick of the testing and the bugs later :P Playing Tetris for the 25th time to see if it works fine, not fun at all :|

To GraphicAdventure:

As I've mentioned before, the only other customization I'm running is Ultramon for a dual monitor support. Switching it off does not resolve the problem.

Restarting Winstep after it gets stuck (seems random, but mostly after exiting games; I say mostly, cause it's been doing it at random intervals even without going into any games) - it helps for some time. Today it was running the whole day actually without problems

I totally agree, btw, intermittent bugs are the worst :|

ZatriX, are you running any Logitech mouse software?
That has been known to cause havoc to many a system.
