I have just reinstalled windows and Winstep on a new SSD drive and restored my WS and NS backups. All seems to be working but my dock and shelf icons are now "?" marks. My old HHD works fine and is still an active drive on my system. I transfered my old Winstep folders to my new drive but it did not help. Most of my icons were antimated icons and are located in 'my documents'. I assumed the Winstep restore would have reinstalled the docks and shelf (and icons) as they were on my old drive. Do I have to go through the process of changing all my icons again or am I missing something?

You transferred Windows to a new SSD drive and booted for the first time without first removing the old drive from your system? That's usually bad news.

Anyway, I think all will become clear to you when you right click on one of the question mark icons in the dock and then check the icon path. My guess is that the icon path will be pointing to the wrong place (which was the correct place when you made the backup but no longer is).

What I did was to install a new SSD in my system, remove (unplug) all other HHDs, install windows to new SSD, plugged in old drives and then installed programs to new SSD drive. I then transfered my docs, etc from old drive to new drive. But when I reinstalled Winstep Extreme I screwed up and checked to 'replace exisiting folders'. I then went to old drive and copied Winstep from 'public folders' to new drive 'public folders'.

In a new installation "should" this have worked or am I screwing up?

In rereading my last post I might have not been real clear. When I installed my new drive and installed Win7 no other drives were connected. I reconnected them after the new/clean install.

As I said, right click on one of the question mark icons in the dock and then check the icon path. Where is it pointing to? Does the drive, folder and icon file it points to exist?

 OK, I got it. It was pointing to the right file but the wrong drive. The window was too small and the drive letter was not showing. During my windows install I had relocated the user files to a different drive.

Thanks
