I've been something of a Nexus-Ultimate dock junkie for a long time now. Recently I began using two monitors (with twice as many docks :D) I keep one at the top of each monitor, the right edge of the right monitor and the left edge of the left monitor.

Everything works nicely except occasionally something causes all 4 docks to snap to the primary monitor. It only takes a couple minutes to put them back where they belong, but it's a bit annoying to have to do so. I haven't been able to figure out what triggers the change.

Can you suggest anything that might prevent the docks from switching like this? Alternatively, is there any way that I can set up a "one click - put 'em back"? A script that restores a backup config or something like that?

Randy

my first guess is that you may be using an older app or game that auto changes your screen(s) resolution and once exited changes it back. i have a couple of older games where they either won't play if winstep is open or cause the shelf and dock to move upon exiting them. in my case it is the games changing my settings and not a problem with winstep.

First you must determine the cause, Randy. My guess is what Chucky mentioned, you run a game that changes your native screen resolution.

I'll be looking into this before v12.2 is officially released.

Jorge,

This is my business system, games are never run on it. There has never been a game installed on it.

Is there any way that I can create a script or some sort of routine that will put the docks back when it happens?

Ok, let's forget the screen resolution change theory then. However, I hope you realize there must be a cause, the 'something' you mention in your previous message - Nexus docks don't just jump around at will. I know this first hand because I run a three monitor system here. :D

My other guess is something temporarily disconnects your secondary monitor. In that case, the docks will automatically 'jump' to your primary monitor, and this is by design.

This sounds like something specific to your system, Randy. As such, only you can figure out what it is by finding out the 'something' that is causing it. Is it something you do? Is it some application you run? Is it a laptop you dock to your working station?

Unfortunately not, even if you move them via SetWindowPos, they will just snap back into the position they think they should be at.

it would help to know which windows version you are using and if any of your software doesn't list your version of windows in the requirements.

If he's running Vista or 7, my guess would be something that switches Aero off... Some kind of legacy programme, perchance?

Switching Aero off would not make the docks relocate to another monitor. Also, Winstep applications are set to react properly when Aero is switched off or on.

It must be related to this. Perhaps my KVM switch is doing it. As I said earlier, it's not a major problem, just a nuisance. I was hoping that it could be reconfigured via a macro or something.

BTW- I'm running Windows 7 x64.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

my thought exactly. jorge i have a couple of programs that turn off aero to run and they both move the shelf and nexus. the kvn switch is certainly a possibility, cause you are disconnecting that monitor and reconnecting it.
