the spacing on the sides and the bottom of the shelf should be something the enduser can change on a per theme basis from the shelf preferences menu. the extra space is on every row of icons in a tab. so like one tab i have 3 rows of 30 and a row of 12. now if i add 19 more items to that shelf i will end up with a 5th row. now being able to adjust the spacing on both ends and the bottom would allow me to have the extra items but still maintain 4 rows.

You can already adjust the vertical and horizontal spacing between icons in the Shelf, that should be enough. Outside Shelf body margins are decided by the skinner.

take another look at the image i posted. look at the spacing between the icons. both the sliders in prefs are already all the way to the left. personally i'd like to have the icons practically on top of each other both vertically and horizontally if possible.

...plus there are reasons (technical) why there are minimum icon spacing limits in the Shelf.

Chucky, You can tweak the values yourself to get closer to what you want, try this to see if it does what you like:

Open the Hand Drawn .wsw file in notepad, and change these values to this.

BodyTopOffset=-10
BodyBottomOffset=-35
BodyLeftOffset=-30
BodyRightOffset=-30

Save it, then reapply the theme. If you want even less space around the icons, make the numbers more negative.
