First off my name is Robert, i'm from Baton Rouge, LA. and i am running Winstep Xtreme(paid) on Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

Ok, i have to say that this program is flat out awesome, many thanks to the people behind the scenes on this one. I had the trial version for MAYBE 1 hour when i said i have to buy this. I've had no real bugs or bad glitches, and little difficulty setting it up the way i wanted it. Thanks!

Now, the worst glitch i have that i'm only mentioning in case somebody knows hows to correct it is when i start up my computer the background image opens up in Windows Photo Viewer(like i'm previewing it, everything else is like it should be), is there anyway to stop that? Btw if this is the worst glitch i have then y'all are definitely doing something right, lol

Also, is there an ETA on your Theme Builder? It is absolutely killing me that i can't create my own themes, lol.

that would be something on your system besides winstep doing that. my suggestion is find a tool for logging everything during bootup and see what is running that shouldn't be.

Press WIN+R and type MsConfig then press the Enter key.

Go to the Startup tab and scan what is starting with your system for anything unusual. As Chucky said, that's not a glitch related to Winstep.

To test that it isn't: exit Winstep Xtreme. Now start it again by clicking the icon on the desktop. Does Photo Viewer open?

ok, i checked msconfig, there was an entry that said "wallpaper", manufacturer "unknown", and listed the path to the wallpaper image. it refused to let me disable it so i deleted the image and now all is well.

it may have been "Windows 7 Logon Background Changer", although i've used it before without this happening. ah well, you never know, i've seen some weird glitches in programs in my life.

anyway, thanks and keep up the good work!

also, i cannot find anything on a way to create my own theme, is there maybe some hack or work around that would let me?

You don't need any hack to make your own theme. Just make a copy of an existing theme directory and make whatever changes you want by manually editing the configuration files.

On the issue of the start-up image, in msconfig under 'startup', there's a column labeled "Location". You can see from there where the actual entry resides, and delete it directly from there. It will either be in the start menu - programs - startup, or in the registry, in some \software\microsoft\windows\...\run node, which you can access through regedit.

Cheers!

I tried that but i cannot save the files in their proper format? I can open them with notepad but if i "save as" ".wsm" or ".wsn", etc. will it still work? What about the windows script file and script component?

Heh... they're all text files. Their names, from what I gather, are all based on the WSx paradigm, which comes from WinStep and one more letter to differentiate between modules. The fact that *some* of the WSx files' extensions just *happen* to coincide with Windows Script files, is purely... ehm... well... coincidental. :D
Cheers, mate!

One more question, i have photoshop cs5, corel draw x5(i think) and several other image editing programs, ive seen a few mentioned for graphically designing skins specifically, do you have any suggestions for which one i should use? I'm pretty good with photoshop, and im currently a texture artist for a pc game so i know my way around the program but i have no experience trying to skin anything.

Well, I've been using PaintShop Pro for a long, long, loooooong time now. However, Corel has totally f&cked it up. The last X4 version is unusable to me, and the previous X3 only solved all the bugs at service pack 5! And now I can't use it because of some bug with the Catalyst 12.3 drivers.
Ideally, I don't think I'd change PSP. However... given the latest stupidities... I don't know. It's bloody infuriating, considering I've got a shitload of work saved in psp files, most of which is vector drawings. But I couldn't possibly suggest getting tied down to PSP to anyone. Corel appears to have outsourced the development of PSP to... India (no offense) or China (again), and all they've done is change the UI, and not in a good way. Moreover, even though I tried to report bugs to them, they wouldn't accept any submission because... I'm not a registered user to X4!!! Which defeats the purpose of the trial version, actually.
Ok... rant off. If you're comfortable working with PS, go for it. I have no idea if it's got the vector capabilities of PSP or Corel Draw, but that's something I am personally used to working with. Like I said, since you're already working with PS... why change?
