Jorge,

Maybe I'm just retarded, but after installing Nexus 12.2, I've encountered something strange. When I launch an app or open a window using Nexus, I get the Windows "Default Beep" sound. When I close the window (or app) my first click will trigger the "Default Beep" sound. It is not one of the Nexus event sounds, it is clearly the Windows "Default Beep". I have the Nexus "Launch Item" sound disabled, so that is not the culprit. What am I doing wrong. How do I stop the annoying beep? If I turn off Nexus, the problem is gone.

Thanks,
Grouch

<edit>
Addendum to the post. Even if I open an app from the apps own icon, as soon as the window opens, I get the "Default Beep". When I close the window, I get the same beep sound. The Windows "Sound Settings" have the open/close window sound disabled.
</edit>

What is the exact build number of Nexus (right click the executable file or click the version number in the About tab of Preferences)?

Could be that I left a debugging 'beep' in the code by accident, sorry.

Are you sure you're not running NextSTART too?

Also, do you have Nexus set to display running applications on the dock *or* use the running indicator?

Jorge,

I don't have NextSTART.

Settings as follows:

I assume that is the settings screen you wanted.

Thanks,
Grouch

Jorge,

Something in your code is trapping windows opening and closing. I opened the BitDefender antivirus window, and a window that wouldn't normally be visible opens (BD Switch Agent). When I try to close the BitDefender window, BitDefender "Exits" instead of minimizing to the Toolbar as it would normally do.

Any window or dialog box that opens/closes rings the "Default Beep" sound.

Thanks,
Grouch

Grouch, were you running the previous version of Nexus without problems? Or you weren't running Nexus at all?

If you were running a previous version of Nexus, how did you upgrade?

Thing is, I cannot reproduce this here, and the only Beep I found that I had accidentally left in the code when debugging was related to the 'Show Desktop' function.

Anyway, in the mean time I'm compiling a new version, I'll let you know once it is available.

Jorge,

Yes, I was running 11.10.0.969 with no problems at all.

Regarding Installation, I followed the instructions below.

INSTALLATION:

To install Nexus, please follow these directions:

1) If any Winstep software is currently running please unload it.

2) Unpack the files contained in this ZIP to a temporary folder.

3) Run NexusSetup.exe and complete the installation.

4) Have fun!

Thanks,
Grouch

Grouch, couple of things to try (I'm really not seeing any of the things that you describe here, and I image everyone would be complaining if this happened on their systems):

1. Check the backup folder (normally C:\Users\Public\Documents\WinStep\Backup\) for the old v11.10 nexus.exe executable (you can check the version by right clicking on it -> Properties -> Details).

Exit Nexus v12.2, manually replace the current v12.2 executable with the old v11.10 executable.

Run it and see if your system still behaves the same way.

2. Now download the latest update of v12.2 from HERE and install that on top.

Please come back with your findings.

Jorge,

Sorry to say, but when I copied 11.10.0.0969 over the new version, the old version worked just fine.

I downloaded the new 12.02.0.0985 and installed it over the old version and it worked just fine.

Whatever it was, you fixed it. Sorry I was the only one to see the problem.

Thanks,
Grouch

Well, I'm glad it's fixed, but I really didn't do anything specific to fixing it. Perhaps the executable got corrupted in some way?

Ah well, this one will be remembered as one of life's great mysteries, eheh. But all is well when it ends well - thanks for your patience too! :D

Jorge,
This is still a persistent problem. I fell back to 11.10 and didn't see the problem. Something in 12.2 is causing what would be an invisible window to become visible.

Any ideas? Please!

Thanks,
Grouch

Grouch, could you not have mentioned this yesterday after fixing the Email Checker problem? I was under the impression that the new release had fixed this problem too.

I've just submitted the new release to Upload.com, chances are that it's too late to update the file.

Can you please provide a screenshot of your whole desktop so I can see the dock and it's contents (perhaps that might give me a clue)?

Also, exactly when does that window become visible? As soon as you fire up Nexus?

Jorge,

Sorry, the BitDefender problem was secondary to me, since the annoying Beep sound was primary. I didn't bother to check the BitDefender since I thought that the beep and the appearance of the invisible window were connected.

See the screen image posted earlier in this thread to see the invisible window.

The window appears when I right-click on the BitDefefnder icon in the toolbar to display the BitDefender Controls. It is not after clicking anything on the dock. It appears to be tied to the "Show Desktop" routine you mentioned before.

Okay, it's nothing to hold up a release. It can wait.

P.S.
I will be upgrading to Nexus Ultimate in the next few weeks when my ship comes in.

Thanks,
Grouch

In what way? The devil is in the details. :D
