I purchased the Xtreme basic which includes Nexus Ultimate. However, I don't have a separate Nexus program that I could use alone (without having to use workshelf) and there are times when I just want to use the nexus docks. In order for my nexus docks to be usable, I have to activate workshelf. Is there any way to just use nexus? I'd appreciate any help.

Under Winstep Xtreme, the Nexus dock component is included (and managed by) the WorkShelf application. You can, if you want, disable the Shelf (open WorkShelf Preferences, go to 'Docks & Shelves', clear the 'Enabled' check box for the Shelf) and even close all the desktop modules, which are also provided by WorkShelf (just right click each module and chose 'Close' from the context menu).

So, if I do disable the shelf, only Nexus will show up. Then I can enable the shelf when I want to use all modules/parts? OK. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Yep. Winstep Xtreme is completely modular - you only use what you need/want. :D

Great! I did it and it worked like a charm. And, I feel sorta dumb because when I looked at all that logical layout, i should have figured that out. So simple really. Thanks again. Great program.

BTW, as I'm getting used to all the features, I realized that I can recolor Winstep/Nexus themes to match other themes I have ( I actually knew I could do that but didn't think of using it till yesterday). So, right now I have a pink 3rd party theme called pink glass by tono. So, I chose the omni winstep theme and recolored it pink. So versatile.

Take your time... there is a lot more to Winstep Xtreme than meets the eye. Above all, have fun figuring out all that it can do. :D

BACHBEET, please explain why you would want to disable WorkShelf. I don't understand. Having Winstep Xtreme to me is like having a Ferrari. To me what you're doing is like having a Ferrari and then only driving it in a bumper car rink.

Please don't take this as a criticism, I just don't get it. I know you mentioned you have basic. I don't know the difference between full and basic since I've never used basic.

If you saw my video, you can see that the WorkShelf can be made to be very unobtrusive, and modules can be made to hide by a bump if for some reason you don't want them visible.

My Workshelf, Modules and Docks are set so if I open a webpage or folder they won't be visible unless I bump to make them appear. My Workdhelf and Docks are set to be visible at all times if my Desktop is showing, but as I assume you know, they can be set so they won't be visible.

I like this setting because if I'm working on something they aren't in my way and can be easily accessed by a simple bump for WorkShelf and side Docks by a right side bump, a top bump for WorkShelf only, and bottom bump for my bottom Dock. To make then go away while a folder or webpage is open, all I have to do is left-click anywhere, obviously not on a link or something else that's going to take you somewhere else or open a file or program.

To make WorkShelf invisible even while your Desktop is showing:

Right-click WorkShelf --> WorkShelf in the Context Menu --> Shelf Properties --> Appearance tab --> Transparency --> Move the slider to the right to your liking under "How transparent do you want the shelf to be when collapsed?" It has a couple of other settings if you want to fiddle around.

Please let me know if this works out for you or if this suggestion isn't to your liking. :)

Hi Windy,

Like I said, I am getting used to all the aspects of the program. So, thanks for pointing this out, and I will try it. I do think that sometimes I just want the dock and the modules. Other times, I plan to use the whole thing, especially with the WBs that Winstep complements.
