we currently have at least one spammer that hasn't been dealt with yet. and i would of thought by now we would have some kind of progress report on the next beta.

Yea its 2 for sure.

As for update, would be nice to hear a bit on it and if we are getting new modules with it.

Also, is their any discounts going on right now for Nexus Ultimate. I want to buy it just don't have the 25 right now for it.

I'm kinda thinking that this is a one man shop and there are only so many hours in the day, so managing a forum, subscriptions, email and of course software development keeps one or the few that there may be, hopping. I reported that spam post yesterday.

I'd like to hear about the new beta. I'd like to get into that part of the forum, applied and sent the necessary email to Jorge about a different email address last week. Haven't heard back yet, still can't get into that forum area. I'm pretty patient.

I too am excited to see what kinds of updates are around the corner.

Yep still going strong. Part of why i hate phpbb. It just does not have good enough security and ways to block out spammers and bot account reg.

Actually there is a question in the sign up form that keeps spam *bots* at bay. Unfortunately some spammers also use underpaid *humans* to create spam accounts.

Anyway, all spam has been dealt with accordingly. Sorry about the flood and having been away for this long.

i talked to a friend of mine who is using phpbb3 for his forum and he informs me that the upgrade from 2 to the current 3 is free. from what i see phpbb is free in the first place. i know there are better spam blockers in 3, so i don't see why you don't simply upgrade. it's not like you will loose anything, cause you have backups to fall back on if something should go wrong.

There are several factors why the forum hasn't been upgraded to PHPBB3 yet. One of them is that this custom theme is not compatible, but there are others factors. :D

Anyway, from what I understood most of the spam came from the same users. Spam blockers are meant to keep bots away but they can't do much to prevent human spammers from signing in.

Just to add my sixpence here... I'm the administrator in the LCDstudio forum and I know by experience it's actually impossible to filter out the spammers *before* they strike. Doesn't matter what you do, they'll come through. Doesn't matter what Captcha you use, doesn't matter what version of what board software. All you can do is piss off the normal users, the spammers never get annoyed or give up.
I've seen tricks like making irrelevant posts in old topics, make lots of posts, make seemingly innocent posts and after weeks add links in their signatures or edit the message itself, you name it.
The only thing you can do is stay alert and keep blocking IPs and deleting messages and users.

yeah i know where you're coming from. under a different username i'm co-admin of 3 boards and you're right short of having to approve every post before it's posted there is no real way of stopping most of the spammers. personally i'm no fan of doing that to members. the main reason is i've created a thread or made a post to a thread, realize i left out something or worded something wrong and ended up having to wait for some one to approve my thread / post before i can correct it. and of course it never seems to fail you get the gmod or admin who approved your post in the first place ask why you edited it, when if they had read the original and the corrected they would of known why. so you end up explaining what should of been obvious.
