When my i5 computer is running steady state (pgms not in opening stage, no downloads going on, no streaming, no video playing etc), just "sitting there," when I look at the process list, nexus.exe is always #2 or 3 at the top of the usage list. It will typically be between 2 to 3% with the top item (which varies) being 4-5%.

I am surprised that a "static" function program is using that much CPU. Are there any configuration settings that increase CPU usage that I might turn off?

Try animated icons, CPU meter, RAM meter, clock, basically anything that requires refreshing.

personally unless you have under 8 gigs of ram and a lot of high mem usage programs i would not be concerned with nexus eating up to 5% of the cpu.

I do not use animated icons in the toolbar. For the other things, I did not even know the toolbar had those--so I do not use those Nexus items either--hence they are not cotributing to the high CPU usage of Nexus.

Memory usage is not what this is about whatsoever.

i know it's not about mem usage. i'm still on a core2duo e8400 and i know i have programs that eat a consistent 5% or more of the cpu, but the only time i really have problems is when too much memory is being used by a program. since you have a i5 cpu i know even the low end i5's are better than the e8400, so again i wouldn't worry about the cpu usage unless you have the conditions above.
