I'm confused, what happened with this company? This software looks freakin awesome, but whats the point of purchasing if it looks as though "support" is pretty much null and void with no updates to the product in over a year? This too me still looks like it has a ton of potential!

you're right the software has a lot of potential. i know jorge has a mile long list of items and tweaks that a lot of people would like to see implemented, but alas i along with others do believe we've seen the last of the updates.

I agree the software has a lot of potential and still consider it to be the best of its kind. The thing that worries me is the long time we have not seen any update at all. Due to this long time, Jorge may think the users expect a Mega update. Such a Mega update takes a lot of effort and time, after which you may easily think that users expect an even bigger (Giga) update. This type of thinking would mean the end of Winstep, since the users expectations at any moment of time will not be met.

I, as a user, would rather have Jorge start to deal with one issue at the time. Just start releasing for instance one minor version update once a month, which solves just one single issue. This allows Jorge to start slowly, handle users expectations and (not the least) his own idea about user expectations. Considering the competion, I think Winstep could even stay ahead of them this way for some time, since minor version updates eventually accumulate to a significant update after a year.

At least I would rather like to see rather one minor update each month (giving me the good feeling of steadily progress being made) than one big Giga update which may never be realized. So, my plead to Jorge would be to start as small he wants, but just start. Once the engine is running, everyone will know Winstep is not gone yet.

Jorge, I wish you the strength to ignite the engine. I am sure it can roar again.

I check the forums often eventhough i do not post much but i want to say something here.

I would really like to know if it is no longer being worked on, or at least where you stand?

A little background on me, i am a game developer for Fortress-Forever, we as developers also have lives. I got promoted at work and bought a new house and moved, in other words i got busy as hell and had no time for developing. Not a day went by that i didnt check the logs and keep up wiith it eventhough i didnt have the time to work on it. So i do not take the lack of updates as a sign that it is dead. Take it from me though, something as simple as not saying "we are still working on it and will have an update for you shortly"(even if to by time WILL have a negative affect on your followers/customers.) We picked somebody up soley for the purpose of keeping the community informed because we lost so many ppl when we just didnt have the time to do anything.

Now, ya''ll keep saying "update every week" and i dont understand that because to me it implies that it has that many problems that they should be releasing fixes for it weekly. To me not only is it the best software available but to me it has been absolutely solid since day one, and done 10x's what i expected it to do. It does soooo much more than i thought it did when i bought it and it is by far one of my best software/programs ive spent money on.

If it needed anything to boost its popularity or fix what it is "lacking" it would be the lack of information, guidelines or tutorials on how to create your on skins. It appears to be the most difficult of like programs for the user to customize, and lets be honest, most of us bought it to do just that.

The software is outstanding, but there are things i think the developers need to address to the community.

Dont take any of this as me whinning or being negative, the software is outstanding and i know how life gets in the way, if needed i would be glad to help with anything i can, im not a master of photoshop cs5 but i dang sure am not a novice(i was a map designer and texture artist for FF). Id even be willing to help out with the community.

I must confess, this is the reason I came to this site today... Wondering if there is any news on continued development of this software. There seems to be enough people around to warrant it, and I too am getting curious if this is another great software product that is being abandoned by the developer??

Until the developers or someone who actually works for Winstep comes forward with an answer, we'll never really know. Being a former dev from a much larger company, not communicating directly with your customers is very bad, and seems an indication of developers who do not care about their customers enough to address issues head on.

Along with many users on this site, I've used your software for years to tweak and customize my Windows work environment. I think we deserve better if we are to continue our support of your company and Winstep. You have a good thing going here. Don't screw it up a good thing by neglecting the people who have chosen to pay money for your software.

I do wish to add a kudos to the 1 moderator I have seen on this site helping people (Skagon). You guys are lucky to have devoted people like him to help with issues. Take care of people like that as well. :)

There is no need for an update. The software works as intended.

My subscription runs out in a few days. I suspected when I purchased it that it was a dead project. I did email asking some questions before I brought it, reported some strange bugs, and emailed again a few days ago with another problem. Though never had a reply on any emails. Which kinda sux since registered users are supposed to get priority technical support, which is one reason I purchased it.

No updates or news on the site since 2012 so god knows whats going on. I really like it and use it over the XP task bar and start menu, the docking station is really useful for shortcuts too.

BTW - does anyone know why the font will not change in the task bar or start menu ? the size and bold/normal will change, but the font seems to be stuck o Arial. It just went like that a few days ago and no idea why. Can only assume a XP update has caused it, but have no idea how to fix it :-(

From what I know, the "support" e-mail is so flooded with spam (being public) that it's very unlikely that Jorge will see anything in it.
As for the bugs, you can post them here and see what happens.
About that "font problem" you're experiencing... do you mean, the Windows taskbar or NextStart?
Even though I'm no expert with NextStart, I assume the font is dictated by the theme in use. Maybe you changed themes recently?

If I can find the email I will post the bugs, but it was about 2 years ago now. I do see some bugs all the time but if its not being supported anymore not sure theres any point at the moment.

I have not changed themes or touched any settings since it was first installed. Even tried changing the theme and the font still does not change, even if I manually set the font.

I know the font problem started a few days ago after a rebooted, but cant remember why i rebooted, there has been a load of XP updates, only other thing I did was remove a ram disk program, but it wasn't used anyway.

Its all on NextStart etc, I dont use the XP task bar or anything now

I am starting to wonder yes!

I am looking for a replacement desktop shell at the moment. might be something better than "explorer" which might not crash as often! Thinking replace the whole shell and see how it goes :)

Better beat the horse as much as possible before the site "possibly" shuts down. I looked up website info and the site will expire in just about 4 weeks on March 14th.
