I have a couple of issues that have been bugging me. Both involving a second monitor

I love the new feature where when you double click on a shelf tab the shelf expands to show all hidden rows of icons. Really useful.. But it doesn’t work well when I am in multi monitor mode.

I have Extreme installed on my laptop. When Home, I have it connected to a second larger monitor situated above my open laptop screen and use both monitors. In this mode I have the shelf docked to the top of the upper/second monitor. When I then double click on a shelf tab, instead of expanding, the whole shelf shifts down lower on the screen about an inch or so away from the top of the screen. Bumping the top edge now brings up the dock in this new lower position. If I double click a tab again, it shifts even lower. The only way I can get it docked back to the top of the screen is to restart Workshelf.

Another issue I’ll mention here now, that I have always had, and persists in this latest version.

Again, I have the shelf docked to the top of my laptop screen when away and docked to the top of my second monitor at home. It seems that Extreme has never been aware of when I have attached my second monitor and automatically move the shelf to the top of the newly connected monitor. It doesn’t matter if I connect the monitor with the computer on or plug it in with the computer in standby then wake it up, the shelf stays docked to the top of the laptop screen, which kinda makes it impossible to trigger. To fix it I have to select Preferences in my lower dock, when the preferences dialog comes up I just click okay, then it moves. When the preferences dialog opens and I go to the Docks and Shelves tab, The Shelf section shows that I am connected to the external monitor, I guess selecting preferences causes it to become aware and switch.

Thanks Jorge, Keep up the great work :D

Actually it's not new. It's been there for ages, the only difference is that the Shelf now smoothly resizes (or should, read below) instead of just jumping into the new size.

Anyway, trying to reproduce what you told me below made me discover (and fix) a bug in which the Shelf would only resize smoothly when attached to the bottom edge of the screen.

Can you please post a screenshot of this issue? It would help me visualize better what is happening (as well as see how the Shelf is setup at the top of the screen, i.e.; if the tabs are inverted or not).

Does your external monitor become the primary monitor when you connect it to the laptop?

Anyway, I see a problem with the Shelf automatically jumping to the other monitor: unlike you, some people might actually want the Shelf to stay put.

The image is of my upper, external monitor showing where the shelf ended up right after i double clicked on the Control Panel tab. If I double click on it again, it will move even lower by the same amount.

I have always used the shelf on the top of the screen. I have a dock on the bottom of the laptop display and another smaller dock on the left side of the laptop display, and the shelf is either at the top of my laptop display or, if connected to an external monitor, at the top of the second monitor, with the tabs along the bottom.

Windows has my laptop screen as the primary monitor (at all times whether the external is connected or not) and the external as the secondary. But in Winstep preferences, under the Docks & Shelves tab the shelf is shown as Docked - Top of "Monitor 1 - Acer" and the other docks on "Monitor 2 - Generic" SO the monitor numbers here are reversed from how Windows sees them. Not sure if that makes any difference. The Acer is the external.

Yeah, I would like the shelf to jump up to the other monitor when connected

And the Shelf is set to reserve screen space, I bet... if you disable that option for that Shelf, this doesn't happen?

Are you referring to under the Properties for the shelf, Position tab, "Reserve Edge pf Screen" at the bottom, Yes, both options "Prevent Maximized Windows..." and "Respect Space Reserved by..." are checked. de-selecting them both in various combinations changes nothing, same issue occurs.

Doesn't make a difference. IIRC, from Windows Vista onwards there is no way to make sure the monitor # always corresponds to how Windows shows them, so Winstep logically numbers/sorts the monitors based on their screen coordinates, from top to bottom, left to right.

What really matters are screen coordinates (the numbering of the monitors is thus arbitrary) and the Primary Monitor is always the one where the top left corner coordinates are (0,0).

Doh. Are you sure? The only time I have seen this happening was because either 'Prevent maximized windows...' or 'respect space reserved...' were turned on.

So, to recap, this only happens when the secondary monitor is attached to the laptop, right? One more question: when you double click the tab for the first time, besides moving down, does the Shelf *also* expand as it should? i.e.; it expands *and* moves down?

Yup, I'm sure, checking all four combinations of those two settings yields the exactly the same results in this matter.

Yes, correct. With the laptop running on it's own and the shelf docked to the top of it's screen, double clicking on a shelf tab correctly expands the shelf.

No, in dual monitor mode, double clicking on a tab only causes the whole shelf to move down, it does not expand.

Hope this helps.
