The new version is currently on the processing queue at Download.com and until it clears I can't make it available through the Winstep Update Manager.

Usually they don't take this long, so, for now, you can download v16.3 directly from here.

Please let me know if you spot any issues, in particular anything to do with right-clicking system tray icons - I changed the code to work with the tray icon of obscure applications that were previously unresponsive (e.g.; KVirc) and I can only hope that didn't break something else.

Winstep Xtreme users can download the new update from:

http://www.winstep.net/xtreme-exe.zip

Nexus Ultimate users can download the new update from:

http://www.winstep.net/ultimate-exe.zip

Nexus users can download the new update from:

http://www.winstep.net/nexus-exe.zip

IMPORTANT: This package is an update and MUST be installed on top of a previous Winstep Xtreme/Nexus Ultimate v15.9 or later installation!

Before running the Setup file, remember to exit all Winstep applications first.

####

This is a maintenance release that fixes the following issues:

* Added 'Lock Size of Desktop Modules' setting, enabled by default, to the Theme Options dialog. With that setting enabled, current desktop module scaling is preserved when switching themes. If the setting is disabled, the scaling of desktop modules is associated to a particular theme, e.g.; this allows you to have desktop modules automatically scaled to 150% whenever you switch to theme A and 100% when you switch to theme B.

* 'Double caching of icons' performance setting is now enabled by default.

* The CD Control internal command was displaying an error message on some systems.

* Lauching items pointing to shortcuts (.lnk files) of a 64 bit application resulted in a 'File not found' error.

* Dropping a shortcut file (.lnk file) into a folder item in the dock now copies/moves the shortcut as it should instead of the original file.

* A dock brought to the foreground via an edge bump would auto-hide as soon as the mouse pointer left it even if a sub-dock was currently open.

* Double clicking the icon of a running application on the dock would open a second instance of that application.

* Mousing over the running application icon of a task that had just closed could result in a 'Access Violation' error.

* An always-on-top dock set to hide automatically for maximized windows was not hidding for full screen windows (e.g.; watching a video full screen on Youtube).

* Wallpaper color-hot track is now correctly previewed when trying new themes and wallpapers in the Themes tab.

* Fixed the 'Stop' image in the Troubleshooting dialog so it properly scales up on high-DPI systems and displays a flat-image icon on Windows 10 systems.

* Decreased the luminance value of the smaller and thinner language identifier text in the Language Bar icon so it's a bit more visible.

* The CD Control internal command was unable to eject media on computers that did not support loading media via software.

* The 'Auto-Hide after a short delay' setting in the Behavior tab of the Shelf Properties dialog was not doing anything.

* It is now possible to change an item's icon by drag & dropping an .ICO, .PNG or .TIF file into the icon even if the dock is locked.

* The result of a drag & drop operation (i.e.; Copy, Move or Link) is now accurately and immediately reflected even when the dock is locked. As before, pressing the SHIFT key forces a move, and pressing the CTRL key forces a copy. Locked docks do not allow items to be moved/re-arranged within the dock, but they still allow a) customizing dock item icons via drag & drop of image files, b) launching a document with a particular application by dropping that document into the application's icon in the dock and c) copying and moving files into drive folders in the dock.

* Locked docks were not accurately reflecting which item was being affected by the file being dropped (i.e.; with unlocked docks, dropping an item before the middle half of a dock icon would insert that item before the icon, dropping it after the middle half would insert the item after the icon. Since locked docks do not allow the insertion of items, this would not accurately reflect which dock item was being targeted by the drag & drop operation).

* The Shelf was still shifting icons in a 'Regular' tab type to make room for dropped items even if the Shelf was locked.

* If the 'Enable double caching of icons' performance setting was enabled, non-magnified icons on the dock could appear slightly blurred because they were being drawn with the High Quality *Bicubic* interpolation mode instead of High Quality *Bilinear*.

* The systray icons of a handful of applications (such as KVirc and Agnitum Outpost Pro) were not playing well with the system tray handling of Winstep applications because they reported a pre-Vista notify icon structure to the system but actually expected mouse click messages to be passed using the post NOTIFYICON_VERSION_4 format.

* Drag & dropping a program (executable) from an Explorer window into the Shelf's Quick Launch tab was showing a 'Move File' visual indication instead of the correct shortcut (Link) visual cue.

* Fixed the 'Opaque on mouseover' desktop module feature which was not working properly and improved the smoothness of the fading in and out animation.

* Text on Windows 7-style Balloon tooltips was not being correctly centered vertically.

* Scaling of desktop modules is no longer reset when you switch to a different theme, unless the new 'Lock size of Desktop Modules' setting is disabled.

* Fixed bug that could cause the Shelf to display a tab of blank icons if a Modal settings window was opened when the Shelf needed to refresh the contents of a tab.

* Right clicking the Quick Launch tab in the Shelf and selecting 'New Program' would actually copy the file to the Quick Launch folder instead of creating a shortcut to it. Right clicking on Shelf tabs pointing to folders that should host shortcuts only now displays 'New Shortcut' and 'New Folder Shortcut' in the context menu instead of 'New Program' and 'New Folder'. Selecting 'New Shortcut' allows the user to select a file via the Browser dialog, and *shortcut* to that file is created instead of the file being copied. Likewise, selecting 'New Folder Shortcut' allows the user to select an existing folder via the Browser dialog, and a shortcut to that folder is created in the target folder.

* The Rename dialog was showing the wrong icon when renaming items in non-Regular Shelf tabs.

* The Monitor drop down box in the Shelf Properties dialog did not have any effect.

* The Quick Launch section in the Taskbar was not automatically reflecting changes made to the name of Windows Quick Launch shortcuts.

* Disabling the capture of WorkShelf Desktop Modules into the NextSTART taskbar as icons was not automatically changing the format of the captured desktop modules, only the opposite did.

* Fixed issue in which a WorkShelf module captured into the NextSTART taskbar might fail to appear if the taskbar was previously hidden or collapsed.

Man, that 30 seconds without Winstep while it's installing is agonizing!

lol

Cnet just updated their listings. The production team were on holidays and they are re-organizing their site, that is why it took longer this time.

And the VERY good news is... it seems they will no longer be using their 'bundled installer', as they were for most of the software there (not on Winstep software, by the way).

Unfortunately a reputation is something very fragile and very hard to get back once trust has been broken.

Man, I love that you finally took care of click actions for a few systray programs. I can get to owncloud again without exiting Nexus, with right and left clicks. Though still missing the option to set running apps to the left side of my dock ;).
Still happy, hehe :).

Jorge, you're 100% correct! Years ago when it was good I used to recommend and use CNET to DL software but then they began to fill their DL with crapware that on several occasions caused problems with my PC and many others.

I did some research and I have been using and recommending FileHippo to DL software ever since. It seems CNET finally came to the realization that users are furious and were going elsewhere because of it. The program Unchecky has been the best protection against the assault from their crapware and elsewhere. Only time will tell if their reputation will be restored.

I just installed Winstep Xtreme 16.03. Winstep.exe is still showing a version number of 15.09 after the install. Is this normal? The Workshelf shows 16.03.

Yes, it's normal thanks. Winstep.exe is just a helper application so that only means that the last time it got changed/recompiled was for v15.9. What really matters is nextstart.exe and workshelf.exe.

I don't know why, but the problem with WorkShelf hanging open after something is deleted has returned. View My Video

From what I've noticed, a clue that might lead to fixing the bug is that WorkShelf closes while the delete message is displayed which should not close until after Yes is clicked on the delete message.

For some reason if I keep doing the process over and over (sometimes as many 20 tries) by restoring it after deleting, it will eventually work correctly and then won't work again until several more tries.

I know, that's what is so strange about it. Something is causing it to revert back to the problem. Are you able to reproduce it?

Everyone reading this that has Xtreme, please see if you can reproduce it. All you have to do is drag an empty folder or file to WorkShelf and delete it. See if it does the same thing as in the video I posted and report back so Jorge can attend to it. Thanks!

I gave it a try with no problem at all.

Yeah, me neither, and I see no way how that could happen after I fixed it either.

Windy, check the version number, perhaps you've accidentally gone back to a previous release?
