The Nextstart menu keeps popping up at random intervals from between 15 minutes to an hour. After popping up, it immediately goes away but takes focus away from the window I was working in.

My guess is that it's probably some background process that's trying to put up an alert, but I don't have any way of detecting which process it is. I've tried unloading processes and uninstalling ones that I don't use any more but it still happens.

Is there any way of putting Nextstart into some sort of logging mode that will tell me what process activated the menu?

My advice is for you to check your NextSTART hotspots tab. More likely than not, you assigned a hotkey (or edge/screen corner bump) to one of the hotspots that invokes the main NextSTART menu.

I just checked and I haven't assigned any hotkeys. Besides, it happens when nothing else is going on. I just had it happen while watching a YouTube video, and I wasn't touching the mouse or keyboard.

I know it's not Nextstart. It's some other app. I just wanted to know if there was some sort of debug that would tell me which app it was. After a lot of testing, it appears that Outlook 2013 is the culprit since it seems to go away when the program isn't running.

NextSTART hotspots/menus can only be invoked in one of three ways:

1. Mouse action (e.g.; screen edge bump, mouse click on hotspot button on the desktop, mouse click on a hotspot that can be associated with a specific 3rd party application's window, etc...)

2. Keyboard - if the hotspot associated to that menu has been assigned a hot key.

3. A special crafted window message sent to the NextSTART application to invoke a specific hotspot (this is how WorkShelf is able to invoke NextSTART hotspots, i.e.; you can add a dock item that invokes a NextSTART hotspot when clicked on).

I don't see any 3rd party application knowing how to do 3), so currently I have no clue as to what might be going on there.

Have you tried already replacing the action of the hotspots that open the main NextSTART menu (from your description it seems that is what is happening, right?) with some other action? This way you might at least isolate which hotspot is causing the menu to appear (by default there are two pre-defined hotspots that invoke the main NextSTART menu, one associated to the Start Button, another to a bump on the top left screen corner... perhaps you added others?).

I don't have any hotspots defined other than ones that were defined during installation, and sometimes NextStart shows when there's no keyboard or mouse activity.

I've been working with TeraTerm (terminal program) and noticed that when I want to stop a macro, I open the macro window (Control->Show macro window) and almost every time NextStart pops up momentarily.

So it seems that when a program transfers the focus to another window (TeraTerm) or causes the focus to be removed (Microsoft Outlook), NextStart shows momentarily.

Any update on this issue?
