Ok, here we go one more time, Beta 2 now: again I prefer to keep this beta private for now, only downloadable from here instead of being picked up by the Update Manager.

WARNING: Make a backup of your WorkShelf settings BEFORE installing the beta..

There were changes made to the code that deal with drag & drop and internal data structures, and although I did my best to filter out and fix any bugs, the probability of those occurring (this time with potential corruption of the contents of your Shelves and Docks) is higher than normal.

You can download:

the beta of Winstep Xtreme v18.11 from HERE

I can, if necessary, speed them a lot (after the first opening) by caching all the icons in memory. Again, it's a speed vs. memory usage trade off.

Ok I have a GS of network connections, very slow to open the first time(beta1) last time.

This time round the same, however the item was duplicated in the dock. As in I now have two GS off Network connections. Ho hum no biggie but its what I see so far.

Do you want a video of it? Assuming I can replicate it…..

About shows 10.11

Extreme Beta 2 in operation with settings backup.

At least it was not lost entirely the GS was a standard folder/internal as far as I remember.

You know, those embedded Youtube videos are not magically appearing on your posts after a delay, I've been editing them to use a Youtube phpBB tag so the video is visible in the post instead of just the URL... I love the videos, really do, but you could save me the trouble.

Anyway, happy now with everything including the animation?

Also, I still spotted problematic question mark (?) icons in your Guitar GStack. What is up with that?

Those are things located in an offline drive. Nothing to worry about.

Making Winstep docks, shelves, drawers, menus or Gstacks point to non-local files in a network is generally a VERY BAD IDEA.

The problem is that Winstep applications are not multi-threaded, so I can't create a separate thread to wait for network connections to either time out or return something. As such, any references to non-local files can block the application for a very long time until either the connection resolves or it times out.

Eh? What type are the GStacks? A screenshot would be nice.

Also, open Preferences, go to the Advanced tab, click the Troubleshooting Options button, then 'Check integrity of docks and shelves'. What does it say?

Ah, mind if I reference your video in the Wincustomize forums? Just to tease them a bit.

Thanks! :) If you want to... I'll be using a direct link, so it really is up to you (but the title of the video ensures it will never be found by anyone lol)

No Create new GS selecting "Network connections" from the list is all that it was no dead links ........

I cant replicate it so no ScreenShots or video sorry. I went and downloaded the Beta1 and applied it I assume its the same. Although you may not have replaced it, you may have over written it with Beta2 Exe for download. They where two GridStacks yes.

"No problems found" See above can you send me "Beta1.exe" my nass has mucked up I dont think I have the right files to replicate the issue, a link to pre GS extream would be nice also. I await pm.

what seems to be missing is switch mini-tabs functions option. if you have that enabled on the shelf its contra intuitive to have it one way for the shelf, another way for the gstacks

True, that is one of the bad parts of having removed the Behavior tab. I still have to think on the best course of action.

Also, as with sub-docks, it's probably a good idea to add an option for GStacks to automatically inherit the theme of a parent Shelf/Drawer.

I also have to decide what to do with the Contents tab, if leave it like this with the irrelevant options disabled, or make a specific Contents tab just for Drawers and GStacks.

Opinions are, as always, welcome.

If I colorize the grid stack background to 40-40-40 using the monochrome tint it looks better. The default option seems to be too dark and some icons that have dark borders don't look good.

I also made the icons text almost white. The default grey mode is too dark for the tinted background.

Also having dropshadow is a good thing :)

This video shows the tools and the audio grid stacks.
