I edited my above post and you replied before I could post the edit so here's what my edit said.

I deleted the edit from the above post.

Hey!! I just noticed something. Is this a bug/you didn't notice? When I delete a folder from the single-tab WorkShelf, via right-click on *Remove from Shelf* the message that pops up says: *Are you sure you want to permanently remove this item from the Drawer?*

Oh. You put them inline with the other quotes. lol

I'll make a video and explain what I mean.

Okay, here we go. First notice the size/Scale of the single-tab WorkShelf. What I'm trying to accomplish is when I click on it, it will immediately open to whatever size I set.

If I want the folders/icons to take up the whole screen, it will, or whatever size vertically and horizontally I want.

At the moment, putting the Grid Stack in a single-tab WorkShelf is the closest thing to it.

In the video after I bump, I then click on the Grid Stack. The Grid Stack is limited in it's display of folders/icons.

So, imagine when the single-tab Shelf is bumped, it opens like the Grid Stack does, without the icon row limitations, and collapses back to whatever the docked size/Scale is set to.

You guys noticed that the dock seems to feeze for a little bit when opening a GStack pointing to a folder with lots and lots of items?

Well, it no longer does that. Now the dock (or whatever the GStack parent object is) remains completely responsive and the launch animation keeps playing while the GStack is opening.

Little detail but kind of makes a world of difference. :)

I noticed that. Great to know! :D

You might have noticed that the Shelf supports a 'icon grid' (those lines making a grid around the icons in the Shelf). When the theme specifies the colors of this grid properly, it looks really good (IMO) - the intention is for the grid to have a nice and *subtle* 3D look to it.

Unfortunately one of the things that ALWAYS pissed me off is how nearly every skinner doesn't bother specifying those colors properly (perhaps because they've turned off the grid themselves) and so they use the same color for the two colors the effect requires. Instead of a nice and subtle 3D grid you then get thick and very UGLY solid black or solid white lines around the icons.

It looks so awful like that it would have been a thousand times better not to have the grid enabled in the first place (probably the reason those skinners disabled the grid themselves).

Some old themes also did not support the grid as the settings required to specify the two colors did not yet exist back then - in that case the theme simply does not display a grid.

So today I decided to fix this sad state of affairs once and for all. This not only allows a grid to be shown on themes that do not support it, as it fixes the MESS the skinners made by overriding their settings for the grid whenever it detects that the two colors are the same.

It actually wasn't easy to implement this, as the grid needs to match the theme automatically, and does this based on several different factors. But I'm pretty pleased with the results so far.

Ok, in another thread at WC, someone is already happy converting his folder shortcuts to folder GStacks.

But, of course, he then tried to do the same to folders inside a 'Documents' type tab in his Shelf and he couldn't.

The Documents tab type shows the contents of the Documents folder in the user's hard drive, and therefore acts exactly like a tab of type folder. Whatever is inside a folder tab exists in the Windows file system, and thus you can only add files and folders to it - the Windows file system does not 'understand' Winstep objects that aren't also shortcuts to files and folders. It has no idea what a 'Grid Stack' is.

This said, it would perhaps be useful to be able to open folders in a folder type tab as a Grid Stack. You can already open them as menus by right clicking the folder and selecting 'Browse'.

Of course, having to right click the folder first to open it as a Grid Stack kind of defeats the purpose, but there is no way to mark individual folders inside a folder type tab as 'always open as a Grid Stack'.

What I might be able to do, if you guys would find this option useful, is allow the tab itself to have a new setting like 'always open folders in this tab as Grid Stacks' (and while we are at it also 'always open folders in this tab as menus').

What do you guys think?

That sounds like this correct? If so, I'm all in!!

"So, imagine when the single-tab Shelf is bumped, it opens like the Grid Stack does, without the icon row limitations, and collapses back to whatever the docked size/Scale is set to."

Of course, don't forget!

Anyway, the answer is 'I don't know yet'. Once (if) I add it, I will say so here.

I dig it. However is also better to open some folders in explorer. (maybe a right click option on a folder?) because I might to run a search on a folder with many files instead.

Most likely I would be glad to see folders opening as stacks, so me opening only one or two by right clicking them is not a deal breaker.

Mind you my guitar backing videos folder has already 103 items and is constantly growing.

how about gstack being a standalone feature like a dock or drawer, not just sub-stack from shelf/dock/drawer?
