No matter whether the "Zoom Tiles on Magnify Effect" is checked or not, the mouse over effect seems to be "magnify". The occurs for existing docs or newly created docs. What is this checkbox supposed to do?

Changing the Mouse Over effect on the doc's right-click menu does, however, work fine.

You lost me a bit: the mouse over effect on docks is selected through a pull up menu on the Dock Properties dialog (or, as you also correctly pointed out, via the dock's context menu) NOT through a check box.

Where exactly is the check box you mentioned?

In WorkShelf's "NeXuS Appearance Preferences", there is a check box at the bottom of the "Skinning Mode" group box. The description reads "Zoom Tiles on Magnify Effect". In addition, the following excerpt is in your help file under the NeXuS Skinning section:

".....When creating a 'Tiles' or 'Advanced' theme, the skinner can also supply dock 'endcap' bitmaps (because of their nature, Background based themes do not need endcaps). If the 'Zoom Tiles on Magnify Effect' option is selected, then NeXuS will magnify tiles both vertically and horizontally on mouse over, instead of just horizontally - this can be an important option for themes where the dock icons should appear to be 'sitting on' the tiles......"

Am I misinterpreting what you mean here?

Yep!

That is a skinning related option only, and it works like this:

Docks can have either a full single background (as most do) or each dock item can have an individual tile behind it.

To see what I mean, right click on the NeXuS control icon of any dock and select Dock Style Editor from the context menu. In the dialog that pops up, select Tiles from the pop up menu.

Most, if not all, of the tiles you see there are simple square textures. When you mouse over the dock, the icons magnify, but NOT the square textures (which would look weird). On the other hand, instead of a square texture you can have something more like a 'base' (i.e. imagine a round 'plate' under each dock icon). In such a case, it looks better if the base magnifies together with the icon (so the 'plate' is also magnified and therefore always appears below the icon, instead of the icon magnifying on top of it).

Hope this explains it...?

Yes, makes more sense now. I was confused about the word "tiles", especially since I have been using a them for everything.

Perhaps next week you could look at the other problems/questions/suggestions.

Thx
