Hi, I'm new here. Just downloaded Nexus Dock, and am getting used to it, but one issue...

In the dock, say I've pinned the mail app, and when I open it , there will be another mail app icon opening in the right.

How do I solve this issue?

Do you mind sharing a screenshot of it?

I find the easiest way to do share a screenshot is to upload the screenshot to a site like imgur.com, grab the URL of that image and then paste it between image tags.
Code:
[img][/img]

For example. the following code shows the image below the example code:
Code:

Hi, here it is:

Even though the mail icons are different, it's the same app.

[Re-posting image so it can be seen in the message. The web address needed to start with "i." and end in ".png", as in https://i.imgur.com/nUaLK0i.png instead of https://imgur.com/nUaLK0i.]

If you close NextSTART and allow Windows' taskbar to show, what do you see there?

Hi, sorry for me getting delayed in replying.

In the Windows default taskbar I don't see any difference.

When a pinned app is opened it doesn't show another icon, just a single icon, the error seems to be with Nexus Dock.

I can't think of a solution. What mail program is that, by the way?

Forget that mail app. Let's consider the Microsoft Teams app.

Here I have pinned the MS Teams app to the dock, and I've opened it, but it shows another icon on the far right. See?

[Mod Edit: Changed URL to show image. The imgur URLs need to point to an image, not the page that contains the image. To get the image URL, right click on the image and copy the address for it. -Ric]

Any idea?

I see Teams on the right, but I don't see the pinned one.

My Teams "launcher" icon runs Update.exe, but the main Teams icon is from Teams.exe in the current folder:

Teams icon to launch Teams:
Code:
C:\Users\ric\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Teams\Update.exe

Teams icon running Teams:
Code:
C:\Users\ric\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Teams\current\Teams.exe

I suspect because the two icons are not from the same program, Winstep doesn't know it should group them together. I think Jorge would have to build-in a way to associate the two together.

No, that's not the picture of MS Teams I'm saying. Here it is:

If you open Preferences and go to the Tasks tab, is the 'Combine dock icons with running applications' setting enabled?

If not that might be the issue. If so, what happens if you drag the Teams icon *on the far right* of the dock (the running applications section) to the *left half* of the dock?

Hi! Yes, the "combine icons with running apps" is enabled. So I tried the way you said by dragging the second MS Teams icon on the far right to the left. Then there were two icons. I deleted the first icon and tried opening again. Now this time, no errors, it worked!
I did that for all other icons...

Thanks for your help!

DesertDwarf was right then, the problem was that the name of the executable in the shortcut you were using to launch the program from the dock did not match the actual program running.

This can happen when an application uses a 'launcher' to launch the main application instead of running it directly. For instance (and this is just a made up example): the shortcut says and runs "launch-chrome.exe" but the application that is running is actually "chrome.exe" - since the executable names do not match the dock has no way of knowing they are actually the same application (AI is not that smart yet ehehe).

AI!? Shurely shome mishtake - you mean "AS", Artificial Stupidity.... ;) :P

Such an absurd, premature term, "AI", when all that it is, really are machine learning algorithms.

So very true. :D

Back in the 80's and 90's we all thought that computers would quickly become intelligent, it was just a matter of 10-15 years... Ahaha, how naive we were back then and how we TOTALLY underestimated the complexity of the problem (and human intelligence). :D
