Hey everyone, I recently decided to try the trial for xtreme since I liked the look of tabs (they're not on nexus paid version right?)
But I already had nexus installed. I figured it was more of an add on for the rest of the features. But now I have 2 versions of nexus dock.. that seem to be separate programs.

Nexus itself cant be seen now in add / remove programs only winstep extreme. But the setting in winstep extreme doesn't show the second dock in the settings.

Admittedly I can just exit that dock and tell it not to start again but now I know its there its bugging me.

Any way to get rid without having to uninstall xtreme and nexus and reinstall just xtreme ? I've just sorted out the tabs and it would be a pain in the hoover.

Thanks for any tips...

As a side note aswell are there any well known animated png icon packs around? I've seen one thread about it and it says to click more on their website but I assume the page has been edited since then cause I can't find any..

If I were you, as you mentioned, the best thing is to tell Winstep Nexus not to start up. That way, if you decide you don't want Xtreme, (which would surprise me), you still have Nexus.

However, if you decide to keep Xtreme, you should uninstall Nexus.

Well that is part of the issue. Windows no longer differentiates nexus from xtreme so I cant uninstall it.

Xtreme I do like except that it seems to be having a greater impact on my pc that the dock alone. I've turned off the start menu one hoping it would help.. not so much but the tabs at the bottom of the screen are brilliant. So I am torn on that part.

That and £28 does seem a little steep impo but maybe not if I were to utilise every feature.

Well, actually £28 for Xtreme makes it an almost ridiculous bargain for all the facilities and power it delivers to the user. (Not to mention it's less than the price of a decent meal in London! :) ) Resource use depends very much on how it's set up in terms of animations and effect - the more of those, the relatively larger the resource hit, obviously, while without any resource use is pretty much unnoticeable.

Those tabs are not part of another dock, they are part of a shelf (Workshelf).

As for animated icon packs, there's one on the website on the "Themes" page, below the themes, plus some other animated icons such as battery and recycler.

Have fun discovering more about Xtreme and all its components can do. :)

I won't argue the value too hardly as I think its subjective. But comparison wise to other software and people who work in London have generally a larger wage/salary lol.
All about what its worth the consumer i guess and although I am happy to and prefer to support developers I still have that threshold where I hold back haha probably just cheap.

Can you get the workshelf separate with nexus dock?

Also I will look at animations and such see if I can bring it down a peg or 2. I think perhaps the widgets may be the main cause since the dock was fine by itself.

Thanks for your input :-)

Well, I'm out in the sticks and even around here it's hard to find a real decent meal and a pint for that money. :) (Not that I eat out myself - I can think of better things to do with my money and anyway prefer home-cooked food, cooked from fresh. :) )

Anyway, yes, you can just get Nexus and Workshelf, in Nexus Ultimate. This also includes things like grid stacks and desktop modules - check the feature comparisons on the website.

if you do decide to buy i would rcommend doing a clean install, you can always back up your settings and its a few quick steps (not so quick in my case, but then Jorge was blown by the sie of my backup file when i sent it to him) to restore

as for the price, for some it may be steep, especially in smaller countries like Croatia, but to us all software is steeps as the prices are usually based on the economy of US/wealthier EU countries

A clean new install is always the way to go, definitely.

Regarding prices, we live in a global capitalist economic system, and that basically means that prices will principally be based on what the market will bear. And for commercial Windows/macOS based software, North America and the wealthier European countries probably represent something like - I'd guess, roughly - 80% of the global market. In that context, and in the context of other Windows based s/w, the prices of Winstep apps are nothing - in the UK, you wouldn't get much more than e.g. 3 to 4 pints of beer for those prices. But yes, in the context of less well heeled nations and esp. 3rd world ones, that can seem rather steep, however, in the context of prices of other apps it still is cheap. And don't forget that renewals are almost half price.

In fact, I would argue that for what Winstep apps are and what they do, the prices are currently actually too low. After all, I'm sure nobody would want Winstep apps and their prices to be compared to say the Mickey Mouse Stardock apps - most of which are not even developed anymore! - and their bargain basement Mickey Mouse prices. In short, pay for crap and crap is what you get.... ;)
