I have started using Nexus and I like that it is highly customisable. One thing I am looking for but haven't managed to locate, is the option to reserve space on the desktop for icons and shortcuts.

I should emphasise that I mean reserving space from the desktop so that, e.g. when a new icon is created is is not positioned under the dock (I think Object dock has such an option).

Is there such an option?

Nexus Preferences -> Position tab -> enable "Prevent maximized windows from overlapping the dock"

Note that for this to work the dock cannot be "floating", it has to be docked to a screen edge.

Thank you for the response. I don't think this is what I want.

It works when my dock is constantly shown but I prefer the dock to auto-hide (my mistake, i did not think to mention it). I was hoping that space could still be reserved on the desktop...

The whole reason of reserving screen space is for the dock or toolbar attached to that screen edge to be always visible without obscuring or preventing access to any desktop icons or maximized windows that might be behind it. If you enable auto-hide, this is no longer needed as the dock/toolbar automatically "gets out of the way" when not in use.

The same behavior can be observed with the Windows taskbar. If you enable auto-hide, the taskbar no longer reserves space for it at the bottom of the screen.

This said, the NextSTART component of Winstep Xtreme would actually allow you to manually reserve screen space at the various screen edges, but that is not possible in the free version of Nexus or even Nexus Ultimate.

Thanks for taking the time to explain.

I think you are correct, I was stuck in the wrong mindset. Mostly because when the dock pops, I can see the icons behind it, even though I have set it to be 0% transparent. But this is a very minor problem...
